Ulster GP - Tips & accomodation advice PLS!
Discussion
On the fringe of booking the ferry to go to the Ulster GP.
Having only been to the TT road races, can anyone give useful pointers to get the most out of this trip as I'm expecting it to be quite different?
Anyone from here going?
Also would be great if anyone could offer advice on where to stay, I've found B&B's etc but would be useful to get recommended some biker friendly accommodation!
Cheers

I've been the last two years and will be going again this year.
It's a fantastic event but be prepared for it to rain, last year was quite an exception as it was sunny all week until the Saturday night after the racing had finished.
I can't offer much advice about where to stay as we sleep in the paddock.
There is a practice session on the Wednesday afternoon, further practice on the Thursday evening along with the Dundrod 150, Friday is a day off and then there are 6 races on the Saturday. They open the paddock to the public on the Friday, so if you do go, pop along and say hello, I'll be with Dave Hewson and we'll have an R6 and an Aprilia RSV4, both in bright orange.
Search for the Ballmac hotel, it's just up from Leathemstown corner, and they do a fantastic mixed grill.

Not much in the way of accomodation near to the circuit
Lisburn is about 5 miles and Belfast about 10
As has been said the Ballymac hotel is close but wont be cheap (if you can get in)
You want biker friendly, forget hotel's and stick your tent up in the campsite next to
the pits, massive beer tent with live music/chat shows at night, brilliant craic.
As for viewing, loads of top spots, top of deers leap is great,a farmer sets up a bar
in his barn, place is buzzing on race day
Been loads of times, best race in the world imho,if you have time ride the antrim coast road

Really trying to avoid camping though after the mare we had at the TT plus it's a pain carrying loads of gear over on the bike.
You going this year?
Thanks
It is an amazing meeting, you will love it. I will be there competing again, just hope the weather is better this year! Good places to watch are on the exit of Lougher's Corner; at the end of the Flying Kilo; Deer's Leap and also there is a great spot just on the last right hander before the start/finish straight, where you can get on the inside of the bend. Enjoy and hope to catch you over there.

He may well be able to say whether he loved it or not, this thread is 4 years old! Thanks - I edited it this morning after I'd found somewhere to stay as everywhere was fully booked so my post wasn't old
What class do you run in? Planning to watch from Deers leap & anywhere else that's walkable from there, this will be my 1st visit to a road race so any pointers and advice on the meet would be handy - I'll be taking my bike rain suit, bound to rain at some point

You have made a good choice for your first road race, as it is superb. I will be honest and say that I ahven't actually watched any of the racing anywhere apart from the pits, but listening to what others say, the areas I mentioned are good. Deer's Leap is great, but it does get the wind there. Sounds daft, but take wellies/walking boots as you can end up walking through wet fields. I am not sure how long the walk to Lougher's Corner would take, but again a great vantage point. What class do you run in? I will be running my GSXR600 in the Dundrod 150 National and Dundrod 150 Challenge and all being well the Supersport races.

Try and get to the end of the flying kilo. You'll probably be standing with you feet dug into the side of a ditch while holding a barbed wire fence with your fingertips but you'll be 2-3 feet away from a pack of superbikes at 200mph.
Plenty of more comfortable viewing spots if that's more of your thing.
