Just downloaded Llama. Looks good. Cheers for the tip.

Thought I'd resurrect this thread as I've just found a great Tasker alternative. It's called AutomateIt and it does a lot of the things Tasker does but has a much simpler UI. It even has several 'rules' included that are very useful. It isn't quite as flexible as Tasker and you have to buy the Pro version (£1) to use multiple triggers. On Tasker I had set up a task that switched brightness to max whenever I opened any of the photo apps. To do this on AutomateIt you seem to have to set up a rule for each app, even on the Pro version but it's so easy to do that it really isn't a hardship.

If you really need complex Tasks then Tasker is still the best app and I'm still using it for a couple of tasks that AutomateIt can't do but for a lot of the stuff like switching wifi off when you leave home or turning your ringtone off when you're at work AutomateIt is great.

I thought I'd mention it as most of the objections to Tasker seemed to be that it was too complicated.

Holy thread resurrection Batman, etc...

Just installed uninstalled Llama and installed Tasker, for no reason other than to cure the Bank Holiday boredom.

So far i've set up:

Wifi to switch on and off with the screen while at work or home. (I need to root my N5 so I can switch data on and off while not at work/home...

Notify me when battery is full while charging, and when it drops to 10% and not charging.

Turn up the volume and play a song when receiving a certain text.

Texts the co-ordinates of the phone when receiving a different text.

Best one so far though is this - http://tasker.wikidot.com/apodwallpaper - took a bit of setting up (with me being a noob) but does explore the more advanced side of what tasker can do.

Well worth £3!

Anyone else got anything interesting/nerdy?

How are you finding Tasker vs Llama? I've only used Tasker. My main use is on the bike, Bluetooth triggers screen orientation, brightness, volume ...

I'd love to be able to get tasker to read my text messages, but through the vehicle speakers when on Bluetooth.
I'm sure it can be done, but I couldn't get it to work

Not the silky smooth experience I was hoping for tbh, but that's probably more my own fault than that of Tasker!

The pic of the day didn't work this morning, but worked when manually started (it's set to turn wifi on, wait 5secs, then run the Task as in the link I posted, then turn off wifi).

Location needs to be on for it to know i'm at work or home, whereas Llama works straight from cell tower.

Wifi doesn't turn off as soon as I've turned the screen off, I believe this is do to the "Monitor" settings in Preferences, as it only checks for tasks to run every 10mins (I've turned this down to 2mins, but I'm thinking it may snafu the battery.

Llama also had a "History" where you could see exactly what tasks had run & when, I can't see the same in Tasker, is there a log kept anywhere?

ETA - found the log wink

I've also set a task to text the bint when I leave work...

The text didn't send til I got home and looked at my phone... grrr!

I've also set wifi to pulse on for a few minutes every hour, if was working this morning (I think) but it never picked up a mail I got at half 2, again 'til I got home and looked at my phone...

I tried for a long time to try and get this to work but it wouldn't so I went with SMS, My Car and Me and that works great and was very easy to set up.

The following works on my unrooted Galaxy S4:

Add a new profile that activates when State>BT Connected to [name or MAC address of your car Bluetooth] AND Event>Received Text

Action>Say>Text=%SMSRB, Stream = media

This should say it through your speakers.

Tasker can use cell tower too. Set the context as state > phone > cell near.

Cheers will try that, the other set of instructions I tired were very complicated!

If not, I'll look at the app mentioned above biggrin

That's not working either, won't trigger til I switch the screen on.

I've tried with and without the cell workaround, screen off monitoring is set to 2mins, i've not tried it with wake screen checked yet, but bringing the screen on every two mins for the sake of sending one text a day isn't exactly reasonable...

Oh and, the APOD isn't working automatically either, works fine when I run it manually.

Will routing make any difference to the above?
