Well, just after I got bored of waiting and bought a 920 it looks like the Windows Phone version of the Pureview 808 is incoming. It has reached the stage of photographs "leaking" to interested websites. The camera spec looks identical to the Pureview although there seems to be confusion as to whether it will be dual core or quad core.

Fortunately I am on O2 refresh so I can go out and help myself to one of these beauties

Best guess of the specs

• 41 MP camera with Xenon flash
• Nokia Pro Camera
• 32 GB internal
• OLED Screen 768X1280
• WP8 V 8.0.10322.71
• FM radio
• Flip to silence
• Polycarbonate body
• Takes a 35 MP picture and a 5 MP picture at the same time one to save one to share
• Comes in yellow
• No SD card
• About 1 mm thinner than Lumia 920 with a big camera hump
• No visible OS changes

This hopefully will be my next phone. The 920 sounds good but doesn't quite make me moist enough to get one.

Does look interesting a camera with a phone, rather than the other way round.

Could someone please explain to me the point of a 35MP camera on a phone with that tiny lens?

Or even the point of a 35MP camera outside a professional studio?

There doesnt need to be a point. It exists that is the great thing about it and one of the things people love about nokia.

A bit like the Kardashians then? They exist and have some kind of following despite being utterly pointless...

It uses the high megapixel sensor to produce a smaller image by over sampling (combining adjacent pixels), this reduces noise etc. a high pixel count also allows lossless zooming in videos.

Ahhh. That makes sense.

What's the apps and games situ like with the Windows Phones these days? Looking over on Android forums, you can now get some really good games titles to play on the phone.

Hmm, I might actually go for one of these, and I haven't considered switching phone for a long time.

I found all of the stuff I used or a decent alternative. The last holdout for me was iplayer which has just been added. The above link is to an Android app which scans what you have and links to equivalents in the Windows Phone store, I don't know how good it is but should give you an idea.

It makes complete sense, and unlike what HTC have done in their One, it actually works.

Seems likely that they're "just" putting a slimmed down 808 sensor in WP, and the 808 really does do a truly excellent job for video and stills.

Stills really do get very close to SLR levels of fidelity in the pureview modes, and video (especially with the stereo rich recording) is equally surprising.

Now, will they finally give one of their WP devices stereo recording, or will it still be restricted to mono .... ?

Looks like most of the specs have leaked ahead of the reveal in a couple of hours...

Been following this device for a few weeks now and eagerly awaiting the press conference. I have been wanting to move away from iOS for a while now and my launch day 4s is getting a little old. Never been a fan of android and I came very close to getting the 920 when it was released but backed out.

I seem to take a lot of pictures on my phone so this could be the ideal handset for me. The pictures I have seen from the 808 pureview look awesome so I'm guessing the 1020 will be even better. The camera grip makes it look like a Sony NEX camera, the extra battery life it provides is a bonus.

It'll need the 32MB to hold a decent number of pics as its taking two at at time!
