Google Nexus 5
Discussion
As I think someone mentioned a few pages back, Google stagger the updates so not every device gets the update at the same time. That limits the hit on the update servers and also if users of the first updated devices start reporting issues they can stop the rollout before it hits all devices.

My Nex 5 updated this morning. I seem to have lost the ability to play .mkv files with sound again. MX player isnt supported with 4.4.2 either yet
Yes, I've found that too but hopefully app updates will fix that. Also a lot of people are reporting better battery life, improved audio levels and quality and other improvements.
However, LED notifications do still seem to be a problem and video recording in low light is now a lot darker than it was before, so although there has been some progress, it's not yet all sorted.
It's still a very good phone for the money IMO.
Not sure if its my car USB charger (a 2.1A Belkin) or whether the Nexus 5 is particularly power hungry running GPS, but when I'm running google maps in the car in a charging car cradle, the battery still discharges a few percent per hour because the GPS is using more juice than the charger can supply. My old iPhone 4 used to charge fine whilst running TomTom even though that was a less powerful 1A charger, surely the GPS on the Nexus can't be THAT power hungry can it, I've not tried it yet but that kind of draw suggests it would barely last an hour with GPS running if not on charge? Anyone else seen similar?
There are a couple of things that can cause that. Firstly, double check that the power supply is capable of supplying the rated power. Often, USB cables are not thick enough to supply sufficient power and so they won't supply enough to keep up with the battery drain with the screen and GPS on. It will indicate charging on the screen, but not deliver enough power. The rating of the charger itself is irrelevant if the cable is not up to it. I bought one of these things to be able to check quickly whether a cable was working correctly. As a check, try the cable that comes with the Nexus 5. It is pretty decent and has enough capacity to charge at full rate.
The second thing that can cause problems is the battery temperature. If it gets too hot, the phone will limit the charging rate to avoid damage. If it is in the windscreen then heat from direct sunlight or a heater outlet can cause it to overheat and stop charging altogether. I've not had any problems like that with the Nexus 5 so far but my old Nexus S was terrible for it, especially in the summer. Every time I've used it for navigation so far I've arrived with more charge than I started with, and it doesn't seem to get particularly warm in use, so I suspect that your problem is charger related rather than temperature.

Cheers for that, the lead is the original that came with my Hudl which has a 2A charger, so I would hope it could cope. Journeys have mostly been in the dark so definitely not sunlight, it is mounted in front of a vent (using a Brodit mount) but the vent is shut off and it doesn't feel like the phone is especially warm when I take it out.
I might have to butcher an old USB extension lead and get my multimeter out, the Belkin was off eBay so I wonder if it's a fake

This update has also fixed an issue I had whereby the handset wouldn't re-connect to data services if the phone signal was lost.
So I'd be at work with a 3G signal, lose signal by getting in the lift for example and when the phone reconnected, it'd only pick up GSM.. so I'd have no emails or messages coming in.
Switching to airplane mode and back it'd then pick up 3G again. Very Annoying!
This happened with WiFi too.. once out of WiFi range it wouldn't automatically switch to 3G.
I put up with this for 2 weeks and it's fine now, so won't be sending the handset back!

Looks like a duff/dodgy car charger, I just installed Battery Monitor Widget which gives you an approximate draw/charge in mA and my new supposedly 2.1A Belkin charger is only giving a net charge of around 600-700mA. When not connected to the charger and discharging, the phone was showing around 350mA draw (without GPS and bluetooth on which I'd normally have enabled) then when plugged in the charger that only went to a 300-400mA charge, so that would undoubtedly drop into discharge with GPS and Bluetooth enabled. I then tried my old 1A Belkin charger with the same lead and was actually getting around 1100-1200mA net charge, so that's if anything over performing compared to its rated output. The 1A charger still hasn't been quite enough though which is why I bought the higher current version, looks like that will be going back and I'll try and get a decent 2A car charger from elsewhere.
