Had the update app really made that much of a difference?

The problem with battery drain and the camera is a bug which caused a particular process associated with the camera to consume a lot of power. If you have that problem it can be seen in the battery use page as "mm-qcamera-daemon", but I don't think the update to the camera app has resolved that particular problem. The fix for it should be coming in 4.4.3 which hasn't been released yet.

Can I ask if anybody has installed the AOSP browser on 4.4.2 without rooting?
Google throws up so much on it that I've given up trying to sift through it as most of it seems to relate to the first 4.4 release.

I don't think it's possible to install it without root permissions as it installs stuff into system areas. I'm not sure there's much point in doing it anyway now since all browsers now use Chromium webview to render instead of webkit.

How do I turn off this google auto awesome thing on photos?

At first it was mildly interesting and I looked at them but nothing more.

Now I discovered David Hasselhof in a whole series of my older photos, without any warning, and to be honest it was a bit creepy, especially as I was showing the photos to family at the time. Apparently it's an "auto awesome photobomb". No thanks.

Yeah, I just miss the Quick Controls, they were second nature to use and well, quick !! Chrome Mobile still irks in the way it can't handle or display text in a uniform fashion when browsing forums. Are they ever gonna get that right, or what exactly is the issue ?

Has anybody had any issues connecting their N5 to a WiFi network? Mine has been good as gold until today and whilst trying to troubleshoot MIL's home network I couldn't get the damn thing to connect.

- correct WPA password
- MAC addressing switched off

Got a vanilla Nexus 10 and a Samsung Galaxy S4 connected with no drama whatsoever. Even weirder, MIL has 2 routers (don't ask) and I couldn't get a connection to either. Just said "Authenticating"...

I had this problem a few times, and the most technical solution I could find was - turn it off and on again. Seriously, fixed the problem both times.

It does appear a little wider, but the camera can be shot by tapping anywhere in the grey bar now (ie you don't have to aim for the shutter button), it wasn't always that way was it, or did I just not realise?
Did you know that you don't have to touch the screen to take a photo? Just pressing the volume button also takes a picture smile

Not all !

Sweet Hallelujahs !! The one thing I missed as Smartphones evolved was the ability to use a side button as a shutter button. And now it's back. smile

It's so much easier just to hold a phone by the edges and squeez a side-mounted shutter button than try and reach the screen.

You could say it's a bit like using an, erm, ammmm, ehhhhh, compact camera ?!

To be fair, it's how the camera app interacts with the volume button. Android developers can use these buttons. Some manufacturers' camera apps may chose to use them differently (eg zoom), but if it's important to you, you could always get another camera app that uses them as a shutter.

Good point. I did use a camera app in the past that used the volume rocker as a zoom control, but no physical shutter button.

It's nice to see an 'official' app from a big player like Google supporting side buttons again.

Does anybody notice the volume freezes on screen when watching a video on YouTube et al? The volume can still be changed but the on screen indicator key just freezes.

Had mine for a few months now. Whilst a great phone I still miss my htc. I know its only a phone but the HTC I found to be a nicer experience to live with. The nexus is quite bland.

Should have waited for the m8. Anyone else feel the same.

Saying that I have a nexus 10 which I do love.

Bought the GF one a few months ago, all as she does is moan about it.

Apps crash, especially the standard keyboard. Random shutdowns and now.... the microphone for the phone has given up so cant make outgoing calls unless using the headphones..

She wants rid of it.. wants a samsung S4 or S5....

Email sent to Google Play support hoping they will replace it

eek

What does she do to it?

It's been the most stable smartphone I've owned in years, and that's having owned about a dozen (including BB's and iPhones)!

Either she completely mistreats it or she needs to have it replaced.
From experience, an S4 won't be any more stable! (have no experience with the S5)
