They are now saying same specs as the iPhone 5s, but what that means exactly remains to be seen:

I would be tempted to sell the S3 unopened and go for the Nexus5. It will be a far higher spec, and vanilla interface. If you don't like that then just put cyanogenmod on it anyway. Either way it will be much more powerful.
Flogged the S3 to a friend in our IT team this morning. £200 is £50 short of the ebay going rate but no ebay fees to pay or hassle dealing with dodgy buyers.

Now the wait begins....

Read some speculative rumours this morning that the new Nexus phone might be dubbed the Nexus 4 (2013), and the new N10 the Nexus 10 (2013). Just as they did with the N7.

The Nexus 5 moniker might be saved for a new future device and coincide with Android 5.0 when the time comes.

Wasn't the whole naming of the nexus devices based on the size of screen? Nexus 4 for the phone, nexus 7 for the 7" tab and nexus 10 for the 10" tab.

Seeing that the new phone has a screen closer to 5", I would be surprised if they didn't call it the nexus5.

Think they may be missing a trick by not continuing to sell the 4 alongside the 5 though. Not everyone wants a huge screen.

Tablets, yes; phones no.

Nexus 4 was the 4th generation Nexus phone. It's screen size is 4.7", so it's damn nearer a 5" screen anyway, if you wanted to use those naming conventions.

That very comment re-inforces the aforementioned rumours that this could be the N4 (2013) though, doesn't it ? If it was a major step-change forward it'd be a 5, with new gen OS etc. Android 4.4 and an updated Nexus device ? N4 (2013) Which makes it easier to continue selling an N4 next year, and possibly introduce a more powerful N5 with Android 5.0 That's just speculation on my part though.

Who knows, the net is full of rumours.

I guess we'll know in approximately 10 days though, and put the rumours to an end.

The Nexus One, S and Galaxy didn't refer to the screen sizes either.

No, the older phones seem to have no relation to anything on the naming apart from that they all have Nexus in the title.

The first phone was just a Google Nexus, then the Nexus one and so on.

I just made the assumption that maybe Google we're trying to create a range of products rather than just randomly releasing handsets with no ecosystem for them to fall into

Something along the lines of Google Nexus Phone would work. Then just update it, keeping the same title. Much like an iPhone. Google Nexus Tablet and Tablet Mini.

Well it appears the technical service manual has been leaked.

Story here:

Technical manual here: http://www.scribd.com/doc/173744848/LG-D821

Unofficial confirmation of the design and hardware I guess.

Pretty much as expected, then.

Only thing left is: I wonder what it'll cost in the UK.

Having had another go with my friend's Nexus 4 (since it wasn't officially released in belgium it's a pretty rare device here), I think one of the biggest selling points is the "feel" of the thing. In my hand, it feels absolutely spot on perfect. The thin/thickness, the weight, the "soft touch" edge,...
If they can keep that same kind of feel without resorting to slippery plastic (SGS3/4) or hard edges slippery back (ip4/5), it's very possible that I'll consider one for my daily driver.
However, I've been pretty impressed with Oppo so far so I'm keeping my eye on them as well.

Reading now that the different internal memory sized versions will have different battery sizes, sot he 16Gb will have a 2300 and the 32Gb will have a 3000 battery.

Sounds substantial!

That would mean a difference in weight and maybe even thickness? Possible that they do that just to keep the price of the entry model low? Tbh, if optimised a bit 2300mAh is plenty, even for a 5" full hd display, but higher is of course better.

Doesn't sound likely although I may be wrong. More likely to be different products for different countries?

Slightly o/t question, but is shutting apps down on the nexus phone as easy as the tablet? My samsung galaxy S2 seems to be a pain to shut stuff down.

Nexus 4 is the same as the Nexus 7 in my experience, so shutting down apps is the same.

That'd be nice. I will be ordering one the minute I can, when they announce (I'd set myself a budget of £300!)

Android shouldn't need Apps to be shut down. Just go back to the main screen and android will manage its memory itself and close them off when required.

What are you doing to shut apps down?

On the S2, you simply hold the middle (home) button down and then your list of applications running show up. You then swipe left any particular application you want to stop. This is on 4.1.2.
