So emailed Google Play saying my 2 week old Nexus5 has repaired most of the issues I had with the old one but the Roaming signal issue was getting very annoying now...

Email back today telling me they will send a new phone once again... Jesus they love sending new phones

I presume you have to send the old ones back? Or have you now got three nexus 5's?

If the rumours were true it was to patch a big security issue

Could explain the speed of the update and lack of chatter about the next update

Does anybody notice the volume freezes on screen when watching a video on YouTube et al? The volume can still be changed but the on screen indicator key just freezes.
This happens on my N4
Also N4 yes, but only for last couple of months
It's weird. All was fine then one day it starts to do this. I wonder if it's one of the apps I have installed?
It appears as though the update has fixed this issue for me.
Messing with the phone a little more shows it has only been semi fixed. YouTube still has this issue. A small but annoying niggle.
Messing with the phone and testing it a lot more points to the possibility of 4.4.4 actually fixing this issue. Thankfully.

Knowing my luck, I'll be back in a bit to tell you all how this issue won't go away and how I want it to die in a fire.

I updated 2 tablets and 2 phones in Menorca using a very slow wifi resort connection. Painful.

Have the 'fixed' the camera yet? I got an N5 on launch day and the camera was super slow and a bit rough Have they sped it up?

Ordered a G3 today.. but I do miss most things about my old N5.

Morning all,

There's a secret option to enable some of the Android L's performance upgrades, which I've tried today. Performance is slightly better but battery life is a big improvement.

Here's how to enable it:

- Go to Settings
- Select ‘About Phone’
- Click on ‘Build Number’ seven times. This will enable Developer options
- Go back and you’ll see a new ‘Developer Options‘ option
- Open it and click “Select runtime” and choose “Use ART”

You'll then get a restart and it's done. Some apps might not be compatible so you can easily switch back whenever you want

I think that's been about for quite some time; but a useful reminder to those who've not seen it before.

Can't say that battery life or speed are noticeably better with art, never mind much better. Phone still feels ferociously quick, and battery life continues to be satisfactory but not great.

I don't doubt there might be some difference but it won't be noticeable to most and to say its much better is a bit of an exaggeration.

Has anyone tried android L yet then? I think I'll wait for it to come out officially, I CBA to be a beta tester these days...

Ah sorry gents, didnt realise it had been around for a while.
My N5 has been horrendously slow of late, so taken a few actions to speed it up - so for me, this has made a huge difference.

Must have been an issue with it before, a nexus 5 should never ever be horrendously slow. Mine has been silly quick from day one.

The version of ART that is included in KitKat is an early version that does not have all the performance benefits of the version that will end up being shipped in the L release.

This graph was shown at I/O:

The version of ART in KitKat corresponds to the red bar which is only marginally better than Dalvik.

Depends on what you've got running. Not all applications can use ART and not all make the most of it so if you're running something a lot that makes the most of it then the gains can be significant.

Had the official preview on my Nexus 5 and 7 for a couple of days now. Not yet run into any major snags and I really like it. I have had a couple of random crashes - for example every time I tried to enter any APN details it would crash. Worked fine after a reboot thankfully.
