Avon ZT5 tyres, anyone?
Discussion
Found these in 165/70/13 for only a couple of quid a corner more than unnamed "budget tyres" and they seem to be rated pretty well in the EU tyre labelling thing at C/C/69db - anyone had them and are they any good?
Only branded tyre in a similar price range seems to be the Goodyear EfficientGrip Compact.

I put a couple of cheap Avons on the front of my golf cabriolet and it completely transformed the car.
Before I thought the suspension and steering was on the way out and had even got a mechanic friend to have a look over it as it was so bad.
I couldn't believe the difference the tyres made I can really recommend Avons.
The tyres that came off the car had plenty of grip but were some no name Chinese brand, the difference was night and day,
Go for the Avons you won't be disappointed.

I think I may be an Avon convert. I went from Firestone Firehawks to Avon ZV3s on my 16V GTE and it has totally changed the car.
My Saab has ZV5s on the front and they seems very good.
As you say, they get good write ups compared to some vert expensive rubber.
Kumho are a very underrated brand, too. Frequently B grade in wet grip compared to Dunlops with D or E rating for twice the price!

Saw this bulge on a friend's car, and I reckon it was about to blow out.
I like Avons, but now he won't buy them again, I think that's harsh, this could happen to any tyre:-
that looks more like your mate driving hard on under inflated tyres rather than a manufacturing issue. I like Avons, but now he won't buy them again, I think that's harsh, this could happen to any tyre:-
I went from Pirelli P Zero assimetrico's on my XJR to Avon ZZ5's and they were as good if not better for nearly half the cost.
i think Avons do make good road tyres,

That's been driven for some considerable time when flat/low pressure and have bent/broken the sidewall. Any tyre (except runflats) would do the same, I'm sure.I like Avons, but now he won't buy them again, I think that's harsh, this could happen to any tyre:-
Bump from the dead as this came up in a search I did to find out if it was worth buying these. National Tyres have them for a good price, getting 2 fitted to my snotter Xantia for £98 next week in 185/65/15 flavour!
That image of the perished ones hasn't put me off, any number of factors could have caused that, from bad luck to bad maintenance.
