Ouch!
Sorry to hear, as above, they're pretty cheap. Great stuff though.

I've got a synology NAS too. If you download the apps for it through Google play you can stream your movies, music, etc from your NAS through your android to your tv. I've been using it recently as the tv in the bedroom isn't the best but has a HDMI and USB so it's perfect!

Can't knock it at the moment really. it's great when you have mates round before you go out as you can just black youtube clips from it!

If people aren't aware if you have a Chromecast you can get £4.99 credit on Google Play.

Make sure your Chromecast App is fully up to date. Select your Chromecast in the app. Go to settings (3 dots) and hit Check Offers. This works for each Chromecast you own smile

This seems to be on the iOS chromecast app only. The credit can be spent on anything, not just for films like the offer makes out.

Edit: For android you do the following:

Install the chromecast plugin in Chrome.
Sign in to your google account
Go here in Chrome: https://cast.google.com/chromecast/offers/
Then you should also get the £4.99.

Nope it works fine on the Android app. The steps I gave before were how I did it on my Nexus 5 for both my Chromecasts. Now just need to work out what to spend my £10 on!!

How did you manage to get the £10?

I had already redeemed it via the iOS app and when I tried on android it gave me the same code and said it had already been used.

I'm not an IT numpty, but cannot get the thing to work, the app will not see the dongle. I have a feeling it's probably the Homehub 5. I'll have a another go when I have a bit more time.

Are you in the initial setup phase?
Presumably you have disconnected from your home wifi and connected to the chromecast in the first instance?

I have lost the ability to Cast from the latest Iplayer app on my Nexus 5. There is simply no Cast icon to click!

Any thoughts?

No but that isn't a logical way to do it.

I'll try it tomorrow.

How would you expect the chromecast to connect to your wireless network, without first connecting a device to it, and providing it with security credentials?
Its perfectly logical.

I have done this
Plugged Chromecast into TV
Installed Chromecast app
Clicked set up on app for the Chromecast which is listed on my tablet
Tablet says "cannot connect to chromecast"

I'll need to edit my initial post about not being an IT numpty.
Now connected, it took all of 2 minutes.

This Chromecast thing caught my attention. To my understanding, you stream movies to it from your phone or computer, so any files your phone/pc can play will play on the TV, or have I got it all wrong?

A little.

For youtube and netflix, you send the link to what you want to stream to the chromecast. Its connected to your wireless router and streams directly.
