Thanks, i actually saw that thread earlier during some googling but it doesnt seem to be 100% conclusive to me. PCM 5.1 should be fine as my AMP will deal with that. I think.
Might just have to have a punt and see what happens.
I have a android TV running plex app and its great, 1080p, DTS etc but it crashes a lot and its driving me up the wall waiting for it to restart to carry on watching things.

Thought I'd be able to get around playing 4oD on the TV now that they have full screen mirroring, instead 4oD knows what you're trying to do and flashes a message saying that you're not allowed to play it on the TV yet!
Can still cast from the PC but its obviously better to be able to do it all from the couch without having to mess about with the computer or break the tablet out for a convoluted RDP to PC to steam to the TV.
It would appear 4 have changed their website so now the 4oD channel for Plex doesn't work either!

Like minds. I tried exactly the same as soon as it was available. Itv player/5od etc don't bother blocking.....Can still cast from the PC but its obviously better to be able to do it all from the couch without having to mess about with the computer or break the tablet out for a convoluted RDP to PC to steam to the TV.

Most of the movie/tv industry is backwards as hell and are just postponing the inevitable this way. It's annoying but a sign of the time. They'll cave because of services like iplayer, plex and Netflix that all have embraced the omniplatform .Can still cast from the PC but its obviously better to be able to do it all from the couch without having to mess about with the computer or break the tablet out for a convoluted RDP to PC to steam to the TV.

When I first got the Chromecast a few months ago, I couldn't watch Netflix US via Unblock. I know the reason why and that there are some workarounds but no matter I thought as I'll just cast it from my computer, which has the US DNS settings, from the webpage.
It didn't work or I would get pictures but no sound. Gave up.
Just tried it again and it now works and there is even a cast icon on the actual Netflix viewer. Nice.
So now if I want to see US stuff, I cast from my Mac or if I want UK stuff I use the app on my phone or pad.

I've tried that on my M8. Works pretty well and good enough quality to play videos through. Much better than the third party apps.croyde said:

I was so excited when I just read this that I immediately tried the same !It didn't work or I would get pictures but no sound. Gave up.

You guessed it, it didn't work.
Have you changed something without realising it?
I have unblock-us on my macbook and when I 'cast' I get the normal 'Sorry that title is not available to watch instantly. Please try another title'

Nothing changed although the first film I tried had the same error page but second was a dream.
Make sure the film is actually playing on your PC before hitting the cast button on the lower right side by the film time indicator.
Good luck
Tried again this morning, the exact same method and again no luck. You are the lucky one !Make sure the film is actually playing on your PC before hitting the cast button on the lower right side by the film time indicator.
Good luck
Get Chromecast £30
Get 'Allcast' £2 or so from memory
Get 'Showbox.apk' - free
Launch Showbox, pick any film (most ever made seem to be on there) or TV series, play via 'Allcast' pick your Chromecast (if you have more than one) voila decent quality films/tv series for pennies.
Unlike other TV /Movie apps, that fall foul of ISP blocks, this one works, you can also d/load anything you want to keep (a bit slowly but it gets there)
Alternatively: If you have films perhaps on your PC
Get Airstream app & also install on your PC
Launch app, navigate to Media dir, play via Allcast, pick your Chrome, watch on TV
I expect it'll only be a matter of time before all newish smartphones will have 'mirror screen' functionality, which will do away with the need for Allcast.

So I have a film playing on my Android phone and have installed Allcast which sees my Chromecast but I can't see a way to cast the film. What am I missing.Get 'Allcast' £2 or so from memory

I can use Allcast to view stuff that is already on the phone so that works but can't see how to get the streaming movie over to the Plasma.
Ta.
You need to use an app that lets you use Allcast as the transporter (to get it onto the TV) Allcast isn't a dedicated media player. That's why I use Showbox or AirStream as both support using Allcast to send the file over to the TV.
At some point maybe MXPlayer or one of the bigger media android players will offer a way, or Google will let you screen mirror, but for now, you need to see what you have that allows Allcast to transport the file over to the TV
Allcast lets you use Google Drive etc, just not necessarily anything that's lurking on your phone itself.

Have you opened it in Allcast first? You should see an option to connect to a CC.I can use Allcast to view stuff that is already on the phone so that works but can't see how to get the streaming movie over to the Plasma.

I wonder if the user has opened files previously using the 'always open with....' option so it always launches the same app for media files.
You need to use 'Just once' option.
To reset this to show all players.
Settings > Apps> (pick app) find the 'LAUNCH BY DEFAULT' section & press 'Clear Defaults' now when you go to play a file, it'll give a list of apps able to play that type of file. Choose 'Just once' then you can allcast when you need to, or play using a different media player if Chromecast isn't available/convenient
