I having an issue with it constantly stopping to buffer crap.

NAS to iPad using Plex works fine.

iPad to chromecast is constantly buffering...

How do I fix that?
Hmm, could it be that the chromecast is getting poor wifi? If it's positioned wrong, the tv can effectively work as a "shield" for the wifi signal.
If you can, maybe try and move the 'cast further with an HDMI extension lead.
I can try, but the issue is its less than 2ft from the router thats on a shelf directly above said chrome cast

Bit obvious asking but, is anything or anyone else using the wifi at the same time that isn't when you tested using the NAS to ipad?

I checked and there was no laptops or desktops doing anything to the wifi at the time... simply the NAS to iPad to Chromecast.

Have you tried changing your wi-fi channel? Seemed to fix mine when it was playing up.

If one has a virgin super hub, how does one change the channel?

No other devices in the property suffer quite like the chromecast, in fact its the only one to suffer like this.

Which service/app is this?
I don't have chromecast but have apps built into the telly and Netflix is invariably superb quality, as is YouTube but Amazon Prime Video can often stutter and freeze.

Can you test different videos, Chromecast can only play MP4s so Plex has to transcode the movie file on the fly for it to work. Can you test an MP4 that does not need transocding and one that does (an AVI or MKV)

Seems to be a fair bit on the net about iPads having trouble keeping up with the transcoding needed. Plus official forum - https://forums.plex.tv/index.php/topic/96247-are-y...

It was tested with an mp4 as I wanted to make sure.

Cheers for the link.

Seems that direct streaming set to yes could be my issue, works fine now, but will double check this evening.

Can I ask a numpty question ? Please don't laugh....

Might be away over the New Year break in a location with no broadband, or tv service. But there is a tv with HDMI.
If I take the Chromecast and a spare router I have here will I be able to power up the router and create a standalone network to stream to the Chromecast, just like at home ?
Or will it try and get online for some obscure reason and then refuse to co-operate ?!

AFAIK Chromecast needs a live Internet connection to download the app. it needs for whatever you ask it to do. It doesn't hold very much in the internal storage at all.

Hi guys, I'm late to this thread having only bought my chromecast today, which I love by the way with connection with my iphone.

I'm sure it's been covered in the previous pages, but is there a way to view my photos/videos from my photo library with this dongle?

Chances are it has USB? I take a stick with stuff on when we go away, hadn't failed yet.

Not from an iPhone no. From an android device yes quite easily it's built for android not Apple so much!

- Install Plex media server on your pc/laptop (free)
- Install Plex app on your iPhone (free)
- "Cast" Plex content to your Chromecast (photos, videos, music etc)

Pretty simple solution I use to view/listen to my media at home.

Cheers. Do I need the laptop on to act as a go between? If so its a horrible workaround as I may as well buy an apple airport express? Also the plex app isn't free.

Thanks anyway for the solution but it's not for me. I think I may have found the solution with EZcast app.

Where are the photos that you want to cast? If they are already on the phone then the google photos (if it exists for iOS) or google+ apps should do the trick.
