I'm 10 months into an 18 month contract. The small print on the back of the letter says I can cancel the contract early due to the price hike.
Which is handy as Sky keep offering me 50% off for a year..
Goodbye Virgin!

I did try to cancel the TV and phone a year ago but it was cheaper to retain the 'Talk Weekend' phone package (there's £15/month I resent paying, my mobile phone costs less to run) the Medium TV package (even though the TV box sits unplugged in a cupboard) and the XL broadband for £37.

Problem is, the level of service (both customer service and internet service) I've had from Virgin has been significantly better than BT, so much better that I'm loath to go back to BT's poorer value for money service, and the potential hassle.

I thought they were putting the price up but giving us all, well maybe not all a faster connection?

But then mine is

XXL package with 60mb for £50 per month and talk unlimited evenings and weekends.

I only recently moved. Freeview and Netflix for me his time. Not paying £50 a month so that I can not watch 90% of what is on

How can I do this but keep the broadband? I'm a cable customer so only pay broadband and TV but want to dump the TV

Is it really £70 per month for TV nowadays? You could get a car for that. The last time I paid for this sort of thing it wa £16 for the basic sky package (sky 1 etc), I cancelled this after 12 months because I thought that was dear. So much free stuff on the internet nowadays surely its not worth paying for.

I got the same letter. To be honest my package is quite good value at the moment (Tivo XXL package, 120mb Broadband, Talk Weekend phone, second HD box in another room). I get all that for £50 a month. I might use the price hike to negotiate an upgrade of the second box to Tivo though smile

I pay around £59 for XXL TV (no SKY sports or movies), 100mb, phone (which we never use)and 2nd Tivo box. They took 3 months to do a simple install when we moved home - so negotiated a lot of cash off/back.

I like the cable BB, I like the triple tuner Tivo box (big plus over SKY) and I'm not sure whether SKY would work out any cheaper, like for like.

What I don't like is that they haven't pulled their finger out and done the deals with the major channels to allow streaming from box to box - which is frankly ludicrous. There is nothing stopping me physically moving the box from one location to another....irked

In theory, the Tivo box is cable of streaming all media from your PC, laptop etc - it's capabilities are far greater than Virgin's lock-down allow, which is frustrating.

I had this the other day, threatened to cancel and the best they could do is knock a tenner off. So I cancelled with 30 days notice. Played hard ball with the retention team that called me twice everyday and got two months free by rebate if I pay the line rental in one go, also £25 a month off so only £26 for unlimited weekend calls, XL TV and the top broadband. Not bothered about sports or movies.

Still considering just cancelling and buying a youview box and find some fast broadband.

I read somewhere that Virgin only own something like 3% off the broadband they deliver. IIRC they were also making a loss with their services.

Correct me if I'm wrong though.

I've been with Virgin for years and tbh their service is far better than having to deal with the st that is BT Openreach.
Complete opposite to my experience, customer service was non existent, wouldn't have them again if it was free.

Who me ?

Likewise Mike. They 've been at it since they upgraded 2mb customers "for free" to 10mb. Catch then was that you had to take new contract and months later up went the price. Customer service. In my latter days there was none. It used to be that if you got nowhere with Agent India ,then a complaint e mail to customer service ( UK based) got action. I tried that three times, phoned them up and cancelled. Three months later ,after I'd cancelled my DD they stopped service and got nasty over the payments I told them service had been cancelled, and I considered any extra service to be a goodwill gesture on their part . I've now got a 3 mobile PAYG for outgoing calls ( no line rental and low cost calls) and a T mobile dongle for browsing.

Not true, I started a new 12month deal/contract with them at the start of September this year, had 'the' letter today informing me of a £5.75 from Feb 1st next year!

I do like the TIVO box but I am thinking Freesat and media PC with netflix will be just as good and half the price

Same, was having a chat with Mrs Saleen earlier and we are thinking along the same lines, my biggest gripe is having to pay them £15 a month for a telephone which never gets used.

Got the letter today. Tivo is good but I don't think my life will end if I got shot of it and it's time to consider this.

I've just done it. Binned XXL TV and 120mb Broadband now on 30mb. Purchased a decent Humax HD Freeview recorder. Saved £50 a month.

I'm missing the upload speed from the 120mb service but that's all. Little 'un still has Netflix so she's happy. Have to say I like the Humax box better than the V+ box ...

But that contract should be on a promotional rate - which are not affected until it expires?
