I'm an Apple lover (Iphone 3, 4S, 5S, 5C, Ipod, MacBook) but I have never understood this obsession to get the gadget as soon as it comes out!
Especially an Apple device which will look exactly the same as the old one when you turn it on and hold little interest within a few minutes (apart from bragging rights). Very odd behaviour.(I'm picking one up on Friday)

AB, I think you are in the Liverpool area. Did you wait at L1 and when did you turn up?
I've read Apple have had 4m reservations as opposed to 2m iPhone 5 pre order reservations.
I made a reservation as early as possible when the 5 came out, got there about an hour before opening and apparently was the first person in the NW to get the 5 (made it into the national press which was embarrassing). Required minimal effort though. Got there at 8 and was in the office with the phone set up (and bored of it) by 9am.I've read Apple have had 4m reservations as opposed to 2m iPhone 5 pre order reservations.
They did decide to open the store at 8:30am rather than 9:00am.
I've also now got iOS8 on my 5... it's just not exciting me... and I'm the excitable type.
My work phone was an S4... But I asked them to swap it for a Lumia 6xx something...
Too much going on when all I wanted to do was email, text, call and manage my calendar with the odd internet search.
An iPhone has always been my personal phone of choice.
I'm also heavily sold on the Apple infrastructure.

For all those planning on queuing up at an Apple store - From experience you'll be risking it. They don't get much stock in, and they allow people in the queue to buy 2. I queued up once and started queuing at 1am. I was around 75th in the queue. They came around asking what people wanted at around 7am. Because everyone was buying 2, they quickly ran out of the popular options (i.e. Gold/16gb/etc). All I could get was a 64gb (which was the most expensive at the time) and the colour I didn't want (Black).
There were people who joined at approx 4am who got nothing!
Don't do it - Unless you're going to get there really early!
Check the PH classified - There's some on there with a small premium...........well worth the saving of a night's sleep and guaranteed Saturday 20th delivery!

Preordered the 6+ here in Aus got around 3 weeks wait until dispatch, or despatch as they weirdly call it over here..
Anyway i went for the + for a change but I use my phone a lot and I'm very active so thinking the size could be an issue hmmm... I could just order another then sell the one i don't like.

Pre ordered 7 and selling 6! Greedy tt!
If you're planning on queuing up all night for £60 (and then risk not getting one) then go for it! I value my time at more than £8/hourEdited by audi321 on Wednesday 17th September 23:21
I probably won't end up queuing up. I was on holiday on the 12th when the pre orders started and forgot, gutted

Why not have one straight away when it should be running its fastest? I mean we could all buy the old kit like you mentioned above but it would be so slow in comparison it would be painful and not a pleasant experience.Shinobi said:

Indeed, older Apple gear hardly makes any sense imho. These devices are already obsolete in a couple of years, why get one that's a couple of years old straight away?Friend got a 4S last year because she couldn't afford a new phone, with the updates done it's as unstable as it comes, and in speed seriously lacking compared to newer phones.

I'm still considering upgrading to a 6 (obviously when all the supply issues and initial hype has died down). I'm trying to convince myself on the grounds that they hold their value fantastically well My 4S is actually running nicely still, even since I upgraded it to iOS8 last night. Sure, it's not as snappy as my Mini Retina, but it's still very pleasant to use overall. I'm quite impressed that they're still supporting the 4S to be honest.
