This has to be the only time in my life where I haven't upgraded and I've considered buying a sim free phone. I remember when I got my iphone 5 32gb I paid £36 a month and 180 for the phone but fuk me, the current contracts now are all within the £40-50 range and still paying around 200 quid for the upfront phone price.

Long gone are the days where you could get a decent contract and get a top of the range phone for free.

The prices are ridiculous, my last 2 iphones where purchased with Tesco's vouchers, 1 year contract etc.

This is 1st time I have paid a shed load of cash for a phone direct from Apple.

Last night the mrs bought a Samsung S4 mini for £19 a month over 2 years from tesco and it did make me think as it is a cracking piece of kit.

I agree. My last decent upgrade deal with Orange was the HTC Desire, about 5 years ago, I think. Always got good deals and felt looked after as a customer from their Hutchinson Telecom days back in the 90s but that all stopped with trying to get the already outdated Samsung S3 3G only phone nearly 2 years ago. They just didn't care.

Funny enough I stayed with Orange but only 'cos Phones4U got me a much better deal. No upfront cost and a very low monthly contract for a decent amount of stuff.

This time round I can't even be bothered to call retentions, if you can ever get through, and will buy outright and get a SIM only deal.

Comparing a contract 6 with EE to buying and getting a SIM and it's something like £300 saved over the 2 years.

It's getting a sim free phone that is the problem.
I weighed up all the options, well apart from 3, and a Vodafone with my 20% discount worked out the best. £950 over a year, 128GB 6.
If I would have bought the phone it would have been £700, so £250 for 20Gb a month, unlimited texts and calls, plus netflix and sky sports free.
That won't be an issue, my contract is not up until January, should be loads around by then.

As mentioned above, it appears that my delivery for my plus has been brought forward to tomorrow!

Not sure if my current UPS tracking is now out of the window or the Korea plane's VTEC is kicking in, yo.

As far as I can see, for sim-only to make more sense than a contract, the monthly sim price needs to be between the £10 & £15 mark. Anything more expensive and it starts to make more sense to go with a contract.

I'm guess they have swapped around some of the stock so that the UPS tracking info will now be irrelevant. By the sound of it, we should get a new tracking number tomorrow morning.

Had the same email at 14:59. My phone will now be arriving tomorrow so the email says, yet Apple Store tracking still suggests Monday and UPS have my phone as having arrived in Korea at 19:10 local time.

Quick tech question - how do I stop text messages appearing on my iMac as well, when they are sent? i.e. just show them on my phone.

Someone on MacRumors called Apple and they said ignore the e-mail and use UPS tracking instead.

I'm going to check the status on the Apple site tomorrow just in case.

my wife's iphone 6 arrived at my work at 2pm...am resisting the temptation to open it and set it up as she doesn't want to use it until she has a case for it

I'd be wary of what the people on the support lines are saying at the moment. The lines are so slammed at the moment that when you do get through, they are saying anything to get you off the call. I called out of curiosity to ask about the 'preparing for dispatch' notification and was told very quickly that I should expect my phone on October 3rd!

My guess is that stock is being reassigned, I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a syncreon / ukmail tracking number tomorrow morning.

I've just noticed the clock app actually ticks round.... Is this an iOS8 thing or iphone 6 thing? I didn't notice it before on my 5S.
I noticed it on my 5 yesterday. Must be an iOS 8 thing.

A member of my team picked mine up from Regent's street this morning. Has been restoring all day. Really like the size of it (standard, not a plus). The keyboard seems easier to use now and had a 5 before so enjoying the finger print thing.... seems much more responsive.

I dont quite get it - I assume they are all contract people???

I just called went online at apple at 8.10am last friday and ordered it - arrived 9.10am today.

Easy.
I queued up as they couldn't guarantee the delivery day for the North of Scotland.

Pre ordered online turned up at 0740 got a free coffee and chocolate, entered at around 0801 and picked up my phones. Home before 0900.

I was due an upgrade, called Voda, they wanted £129 for the 65GB 6 up front & £53.50 a month for unlimited everything but only 3G.

Ordered through CPW 65GB 6, unlimited everything + 4G & no up front cost for the phone £48.50 P/Month.

50P more than my current deal so i was happy with that.

It's a 24 month contract but that's of no relevance as i dont bother with the S versions anyway
