As a non-Apple user, can anyone explain in simple terms why iphone pics uploaded to this site so frequently appear upside down?
Excellent, cheers smile

They appear upside down usually because people use the volume button as the shutter button, but to do that you're actually using the phone upside down.
Apple doesn't process it to correct it as it would slow down the camera, so saves orientation info in the EXIF data.
A lot of browsers ignore the EXIF data, so its not corrected unless you do it manually.

On this thread, when I viewed the smaller version in the thread it is upside down on my MBP, but if I click on it and view in full resolution it corrects it.
IIRC, iOS devices always correct it

Thanks.

I only ask as so many threads appear to regularly contain upside down images with a suffix to the posts saying "Bloody iphone" or similar. It is possible to take images and for them to appear "correctly" then?

Is there a way to upload pictures to pistonheads on the mobile site? It's a pain having to switch to the full site to do it on my phone - especially as the screen is now big enough to really be used most of the time!

Haven't had a chance to have a play with a 6 yet, but out of curiosity, is the reachability functionality a double tap or an actual double depression of the button - ie a double click?
double tap, works well too. Although to be fair if I am surfing the net I usually use two hands so doubt I will use it much

Apologies if this has been covered already. I'm in the States in a weeks time and am looking for advice on whether the 4G function of phone bought in the US will work in the UK.
It appears you can only buy the model that's compatible with UK 4G on a contract in USA. The sim free option, I believe, isn't compatible.
The Sim-Free one in the US is the GSM model and will work here. LTE/4G bands appear to now be standard across UK/US iPhones so shouldn't be a problem.

Apparently the warranty will not be valid in the UK if anything happens it though. Something to consider.
That's not what the apple website says! There's a link somewhere I found earlier on today that showed the different bands they both work on.
There are a few different versions of the phone yes. They all share the same LTE bands though. I believe in the past there was a problem where the US iPhone didn't have the LTE 7 band that the UK uses. I understand this to not be the case anymore.
https://www.apple.com/iphone/LTE/

That's what I was looking at. Is it worth the risk of not working?!
I've just found out my sister has one arriving from USA tomorrow. Will report back as to whether it's unlocked or not and whether the 4G works!

Any one looking at trade in should try Game,

Envirophone offered me £65 for my 8gb iphone 4. Game offered me £91
That's a really good shout.

Just got £223 for my 32gb iPhone 5 from CEX. Unlocked, faultless and came with everything as new, so was graded as an A. Pissed all over O2 Recycle's offer of £160 and Apple's laughable in-house offer of £125.

Loving the 6 so far. Nice jump up from the 5 and the size is about right. Could probably tolerate something between the 6 and the 6 Plus, but the latter was simply too big when I tried it out.

Only immediate downside is that all the regular, unoptimised apps look pretty poor upscaled. Hopefully it shouldn't be too long before updates are rolled out by developers.

It has been doing that since iOS7... however it does seem to be much more pronounced on the 6 with iOS8.

The thinness of the 6 makes it very good for carrying around in your pocket. Almost easy to forget it's there!

so i want to change from o2 to vodafone as theres no o2 reception in my new village and contract has just ended..

can i get a better deal with vodafone that the usual advertised one - ie is it worth making them think they are persuading me to move from longstanding o2 contract?

or is iphone 6 too new and no deals to be had?

thks

My 6 home screen doesn't rotate, neither does the home screen on my old 5 with ios8 update. Is it supposed to?

When you turn it sideways have the volume buttons at the bottom, then the camera is the right way up.
Its a bit of a daft idea to of done it that way really, you'd of thought the right way up would of been to have the volume buttons at the top so they could actually work like a shutter button on a normal camera!

Another way is to use a decent camera app, but that seems a bit pointless to me when its got one built in

As far as I know, only the 6+ has a rotating home screen, like an iPad. The effect referred to above is different - they're taling about when you tilt the phone a little from side to side and the icons move to simulate parallax and make them look as if they're floating above your wallpaper. I think it looks awful personally!

I could have sworn that I could flip my phone so the home button was at the top and everything would flip around to match. I might be getting confused with my iPad though.

Rotate? As in move from portrait to landscape as you move the phone?

Yes, it does that. Are you on rotation lock?

yea mine did that. Remove the email account, reboot then go to mail app (NOT mail settings) and it will prompt you to add an account, do that and it should work.

My 5 is up on contract with 3 and a 6 in the same size with the same contract is 99 up front and 50 a month where I am currently paying 42. Anyone managed to get three to do anything on the costs because of continued loyalty?
