Reading the last few pages makes me realise I've probably (definitely) been overpaying for my phones. Never really cared, but having to watch the pennies a bit more these days.

I usually just upgrade to the latest thing a few weeks after the geeks have finished camping out side the store. So, as someone using an iPhone 5 who:

- Pays £48.75 O2 Unlimited with 2GB data
- Barely uses it for calls, mainly surfing the net via 3G when traveling.
- Uses Whatsapp for photos and text
- Currently out of contract and able to upgrade

What would you suggest are my best options for getting a 6?

Thanks in advance for any tips!
If I was getting a 6, I would definitely pay for one sim free and get a sim only deal. I'm sure I've seen 2gb/unlimited/unlimited for as little as £15 a month. The phone companies are asking far too much this time around and not just for the latest iPhone.

Orange always gave me a good deal at upgrade time on phones other than Apple and I never paid for a hand set upfront, but come last upgrade, 2 years ago, they wouldn't budge, even asking loads for an already getting old Samsung S3. I had to turn to Phones4U for a great deal.

(Free S3 with 1gb/unlimited calls and texts for £28/month)

It's this policy that is finally convincing me for the first time to get the Apple product.

I'm now on an O2 sim only unlimited/unlimited/3gb for £20 a month. Bought phone outright.

3gb is more than enough for me. Work and home have wifi so haven't even gotten close to using it all!

On 4G I'm getting 25mb download speeds! My home broadband isn't much faster. Amazing thing really.

Anyone else disappointed by the 6? These incremental changes are rather too samey for me. There's simply zero innovation.

I think Apple is rather like Porsche in that respect. It's all about gradual refinement rather than step changes.

yes

How much more innovation is left in smartphones? Do samsungs really do much more for example?

The 6 is basically just a super refined version of what they wanted to introduce originally back in 2007. The tech just didn't exist back then I guess.

Well,

The "new" stuff introduced in iOS7 and 8 is mostly stuff Android has been doing for years.
But, Apple is clearly catching up and especially Samsung are just looking for stuff to add.
Apple is smarter in this aspect, they hold back things they could have done years ago, and releasing them very gradually.

There are simply enormous changes internally, Apple are making huge leaps forward. Unfortunately many of these changes benefit the user indirectly (i.e. when developers take advantage of what's available), so unless you're interested in the underlying stuff it may take a few generations to really 'feel' significant improvements.

I think it's inevitable that Android, being Open Source, is going to lead the way in terms of innovation and functionality. What Apple do is polish functionality and work on a really good GUI and HCI and that often means waiting until technology is a bit more robust or tried and tested. Most people choose Apple phones not because they have features unavailable on Android nor because they want the cutting edge of tech, but instead because they believe (and I agree) that Apple phones have a much nicer user experience, a much nicer GUI and a much nicer HCI. Size was also a reason to stick with Apple, although since the release of the iPhone 6 this is no longer the case! Some would argue (me included), that iOS has also taken steps back in usability since release 7 too...

I'm getting a 6,

Sim package wise, all I need is 2gb.

I've worked out that I'll only save £70 over two years by buying the phone sim-free from Apple.

So from my point of view, it's pointless spending 539 quid up front just to save 70 quid over two years. So unless I find an amazing sim only deal, I'll be going with a contract, I think.

I've just found out my sister has one arriving from USA tomorrow. Will report back as to whether it's unlocked or not and whether the 4G works!
Cheers any info you can glean would be gratefully received. The differences of opinion on here are making me lean towards a UK sourced model but the price differential is massive.

You won't be interested in my 2 year fixed term ISA at 6.3% AER, then...

Well that's buggered it.

Picked up shiny new iPhone 6 on Friday by Sunday night it has a definite bend in it going from the sim slot to the volume buttons. Its probably managed 12 hours, at most,in the last 48 kept in the front pocket of my jeans, the same pocket where my old 5 lasted unbent for 2 years. A quick Google suggests I am not the only one either, I fear that apple may have gone a bit to far down the Colin Chapman school of design in making it thinner.

Back to the apple store to see if they can sort it frown

Ok so I have been playing with the 6 for a couple of days now, the only thing that is really annoying me is the fact the camera sticks from the phone. Even with a case I think the lens is going to take some abuse.

Is that not an undocumented feature, copying inspired by the Galaxy Nexus (2011)?

Lots of talk about bent 6's here
http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=17859...

Its a concern of mine considering my job of getting on and off forklifts and in and out of truck cabs all day long.
Especially if I go for the Plus!

well I have 6, all loaded up from icloud, but somehow my passcode wont be excepted! I am certain I entered the correct code! So all I can do is use the fingerprint.

Tonight I will have to restore my phone through iTunes and start again!

I drove around in my race car this morning, with the phone in my pocket, strapped behind my harnesses... and it didn't bend.
