Think I am going to wait for the larger version of the 6, although I'll wait until the 4.7" version is in the shops and have a wee play around with it.

I have a 4S iPhone and a 2 year old (it might even be 3 yrs old now actually) iPad, I looked at getting an iPad mini so the larger iPhone 6 appeals as something to play games, browse online with etc.

I don't get it. I used to be an iPhone user, but a year with an Android phone and I cannot see me going back. I was on the train from Euston yesterday, 6 people around me with their phones out, all iPhones.

There doesn't seem to be any standout features and it has taken 2 years or so for Apple to "catch up" with the screen size.

You pay a premium for an iPhone over any other phone as well.

Do people buy them because they're hooked on the Apple brand and think they have to have it to be "cool"? Are the people that buy them lacking in originality or are just sheep?

I had an iPhone 4 as there was nothing out at the time that seemed as good. I went to an iPhone 5 stupidly when I shouldve gone to an Android phone.

I know most phones now have the same sort of features, so why pay extra for an iPhone? It doesn't even look good!

Its doesn't even look good?

Is a phone supposed to?

I guess it has to if you are conscious about your social appearance.

I think the iPhone does the job very well without any drama.

2 reason peopl buy iPhones

1 they are sheep and HAVE to be seen with the latest thing

or

Like me they hate phones and find an iPhone to be basically hassle free

No, I think you misunderstood Angrydog. He mentioned a lot of other phones do the same and often work a lot better without any drama, Angrydog was questioning why you'd pay over the odds for a phone that does a lot less, with more hassle, while "it doesn't even look that good"...

If you buy into the Apple ecosystem, then an iPhone is an obvious choice.

I switched a while ago to have nothing but Apple products - an iMac, a MacBook, iPad and iPhone.... the things just work. But then I only want email, browsing, phone and address book. I don't need to delve into any other functions.

Never had any problems with any of my various iPhones over the years - so I'll stick with them.

The last thing you say used to make sense, but having used both operating systems, I didn't struggle with Android after using iOS. I think its a fallacy these days that Android is harder to use etc. It's just different. It's been around a while now and its got nicely polished up.

You're also not tied into iTunes with an Android phone, which for me was a blessing, as I loathe iTunes

Exactly this. And yes, I do want my phone to be asphetically pleasing, who wants to look at a turf of a phone when you're using it ? Not saying an iPhone is, I just think it's very plain.

With improvements to speakers etc, Apple still continue to put the speaker on the bottom of the phone.

Do people still say this 'OMG people who buy iPhones are sheep' thing? rofl

I thought that died years ago.

I use an iPhone because it works. I like the OS, I'm not 'tied to iTunes' (I can't remember the last time I used iTunes), I think they look good (if that's eve a requirement).

My colleague has a new Samsung Galaxy S5, It's a nice phone, has a nice OS, nice camera and looks nice, much like my iPhone, and it was around the same price. Shock.

I use an iPhone because it just works. It has nothing to do with fashion or what anyone else thinks, it just does everything I need and fits nicely in my pocket.

I've just gone back to an iPhone after about 3 years with an Android, why? Well I have a Mac and I like the idea of the continuity with OSX and iOS 8, so I'm preparing myself for that, re-learning how to use an apple phone, having tried hte iOS8 Beta (Which used a lot a battery power) there were some nice touches. I like that I can take photos and they appear on my Mac. But I miss a lot from the Android phone. Screen size for one, a proper XBMC remote, a nice browsing experience, widgets, Plume.

While a lot of it is down to social status some us have them because we do really like them.

I have an IP5 as my personal phone and SGS3 as my work phone. I don't get on with Andriod and I find iOS much easier and logical to use. I also don't like windows very much and prefer OSX on my macbook. None of them are perfect but I just gel better with Apple products, maybe because I've been an Apple user since 86. I guess the really clincher for me is with a Macbook, an appleTV, 3 x iPods, 2 x iPads and 2 x iPhones in the househld it all works together with no dramas to the point my technophobe wife can stream stuff to the TV without askign me eery 5 minutes how things work. That sort of thing is worth it's weight in gold. COuld I get a combo of Andriod and Windows stuff to do the same? Without a doubt but I suspect it make take a little more configuration but that's no biggie, but why would I? I have an ecosystem I like, that works and fulfills my needs.

Sorry, but trying to compare an iPhone 5S with the likes of the HTC One M8, Galaxy S5 and LG G3 is just silly.

The 5S can hardly compare to the Nexus 5, a phone about half the price, which was the point TheAngryDog was making.

Mind you, by the end of their life iphones do seem crazy overpriced because they don't drop in price like the Samsungs do, which is great for resale values.
Once the iPhone 6 comes out it might make a bit more sense once again.

Have a look at chromecast. Does exactly the same, no setup, for less than half the price. The clincher here is that it works for iOS, OSX, Android, Windows,... without any hassle.

Zes, I used to run a mobile phone shop, I've done my fair share of 'comparing' models. I still buy an iPhone as I like the way it works, not because it has the latest processor, camera etc etc etc.

Not everyone who buys a phone is bothered about it having the latest gear, I was like that once and I understand where you're coming from but this whole 'iPhones are crap' thing is just that, crap. They work, the OS is great, the build quality is good, the camera/video functions are great, the availability and integration of apps are ace, the music playback functions are ace, all things you get on an Android device too I know. That's the wonderful thing about cars/phones/houses/whatever, there's plenty of choice for what you want. Buying one brand because that's your preference is completely fine.

I can totally see the appeal of iPhone, they just work, are easy to work, they look good and they are still worth a fair amount at two years old. I think the OS is looking dated though.

I don't like Android as I find it a pfaff to use, however I can understand why people like it as it is customisable and you can play around alot more with it plus there is alot more scope for every budget.

Regarding costs, well a high end Android phone costs the same as an iPhone so I don't really see the argument there and when it comes to Samsungs I'm afraid the build quality and feel for the thing is pretty poor when you consider the cost, my wife's S4 is awful to hold and use, it just feels so cheap.

Myself; Windows for me, like iPhone as in it just works however it has a much fresher and modern OS.

For me it boils down to... I just don't like change wink

I've had 3g new, 3gs (hand me down) and Ip5 which I've had for 2 years now. Which must see me at about 6 years with a Iphone.

It's a phone, it works, I don't need or want it to be the size of a house. I just want it to do it well. And it does...

Now on a separate note, I've had to have my misses 5c this weekend as the screens playing up so she's taken my Ip5 away with her.... God it's awful I hate it already... Just doesn't feel the same as the Ip5 to hold.

Not exactly, there's some small differences that the phone geeks would be worried about.

Mostly it's because the 5C looks gash in comparison to the 5S tongue out
