Consumer Reports showed that the iPhone 6 is actually easier to bend than the 6+.
I've seen that - the force required to bend the 6 is lower than that required to bend a 6+. But that's not real world, and the reports I've seen have only been about the 6+ bending. Hence the question; does the 6 actually bend in real world use?
The Unboxtherapy vids showed the 6+ bending with what looked like a lot less effort than the 6.

It seems the point is that in the smaller (ahem) phones such as the HTC One M8 and iPhone 6, aluminium is probably OK because while it's clearly not very strong, the phone dimensions are such that the phone isn't put in situations that might bend it.

In the bigger phablet phones like the 6+ and Note, it's dimensions mean it's more likely to suffer those stresses in in normal use.

So, aluminium is probably fine in a 5" screen phone, but just not a strong enough material for bigger mobile devices.

Never a company to miss an opportunity for a dig at Apple, Samsung have put out a video showing the Note 4 can be repeatedly sat on by fatties without worry smile

Can I buy an iPhone outright sim free from the Apple store and then set it all up with my various accounts via Wifi as I will have to wait a while for my smaller sim?

Or is it a case of no sim, it's a brick?
I asked this question a few pages back (I bought a 6+ from an Apple store at the weekend) and I was told no, needs to have an active SIM for the setup process, so I didn't switch my new iPhone on until i had an active SIM in it.

Its an iPhone 6 and no I didn't sit on it at all it was in the front pocket or my trousers. And from what I can work out it bent while I walked about 50 yards!
It's Not like I was wearing skinny jeans even!

If you're on O2 just pop in their shop and they'll give you a SIM. I would imagine most of the other providers would too.

I am with Tesco Mobile and they gave me a Nano SIM in one of their shops, took 15 hours for them to transfer my number onto the new SIM though.

I don't know about other providers but with Giff Gaff you can do it all yourself on their website. I got a micro-SIM for my new phone and transferred my old number to it in about 15 minutes.

I did it via the O2 website once I'd got the SIM, took about half hour for them to port it thumbup

This bending does concern me but hopefully I can keep a straight phone as I don't put it in my back pocket, only the front and generally my pockets are deep enough so when I sit down the phone is not at my 'hip' but I did have a circumstance last week where my 7 year old daughter sat on my lap - right on top of my phone - a situation where it could bend ( as she is rather heavy)
'
Where would I stand with Apple if I took in a 'bent' phone, they could just turn you away saying that you were negligent?

I also need to check with my bank as I have phone insurance with them.

You'd imagine that all manufacturers would do this kind of testing on their phones. Wonder how the iPhone 6 design got through QC?

Here's a few seconds of iPhone 6 slo-mo footage that I took at a 4x4 event last weekend:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1_hfOxZk2YU

and a few more seconds of our kittens fighting:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tfRos8VjpVI

As for the iPhone 6 - my Samsung contract expired last week and Apple finally decided to make a phone of sensible size so I thought I'd give the 6 a go. I must say, having never used an iPhone, I'm impressed with it.

I set my 6 up without an active SIM, restored from my old 4S via iTunes without any issues. From memory I think i could also surf etc until the SIM was activated

That's ace biggrin

I think this slo-mo thing is the only iPhone feature I've been jealous of.

Yeah, I've set up a few 6's and a 6+ now. No need for a SIM to set it all up, but you will need a WiFi signal or iTunes on an internet connected PC/Mac instead.

Still can't decide whether to get a 6+ or a Z3 as my next upgrade, which is already overdue.

Been in the Apple shop for hours now and bent iPhones are not covered under AppleCare . So they would only replace it for a fee!!

Went and spoke to my network and I can't return the phone because it is damaged.

So I'm stuck with a bent iPhone !!!!!!

other than starbucks, where else uses applepay / nfc?
There's loads. Keep an eye out for the contactless symbol when you're out shopping.
Edit. That's NFC, no idea about Apple.

Edited by hornetrider on Thursday 2nd October 09:06
I assumed (incorrectly I guess) that the phone could be used where-ever there is contactless payment? Waitrose etc..?

Or does it need to be specially configured for Apple?
this is kind of what I was wondering too.

Have had NFC on my phone for ages now, and never used it.
I assumed the NFC symbols were for card payments, not phone. or is it one and the same?

you have 14 days to return the phone for a full refund...sit on it and make it straight again and then ask for a refund!

im tempted to take mine back, save £200 and buy an galaxy S5 or alpha

That's plan b at the moment. But that's not the point really and you could still tell I think it has put a kink in the aluminium!
