Just for reference, is there anyone on here that has bought a 6(+) as their first iPhone?
Would love to hear your experiences.
6 here and first iPhone. Would love to hear your experiences.
On the whole, I like it but as I said in another thread, there are aspects of the interface that are completely arse backwards. My main gripe is the email attachment functionality or lack thereof. Now I understand why the functionality is missing but it doesn't make it any easier to handle.
I've even gotten to grips with the slower (compared to android) scrolling speeds in Safari and the lack of a dedicated led notification light (I knew about that before I got it anyway) but having to start with the attachment in the first place THEN write the email is just plain duckin' stupid. As is the notion that you want to attach a file when halfway through an email, you need to C&P the email contents, bin the email, retrieve the file from whatever app it's in then start again.
I'll be swapping it for an Experia Z3 Compact.

Can I just ask what this notification light is that a few people are mentioning it doesn't have? My iPhone is set up to flash the camera light when I get stuff through. Is this something different you're all on about?
Well yes. And on my iPhone I can happily be half way through an email, attach something to it half way through and continue writing the email...HenryJM said:

For reference, I'm talking a file other than a photo or a video.
personally i am quite happy with the iPhone's lack of notification LED. I'd rather my phone didn't pester me to pick it up all the time, like my old blackberries used to, especially as the LED would light up and then keep flashing forever for every damn thing that had happened. The flashing LED was always quite hard to ignore as it used to catch your eye wherever the phone was sitting, so you'd find yourself checking the phone just to make the LED stop. As this was both my personal and work phone at the time, it had the added bonus of promoting a complete lack of work/life balance.

? I don't think there's any modern smartphone with a notification led on sale today that doesn't allow you to turn it off if you want to. Plenty of other functions you don't use anyway. As for the attachment, I'm quite curious as well.

Obvious troll is obvious. I genuinely hope you enjoy your iPhone 6's they are very good phones (if a little old hat in tech terms).
That smacks of reverse snob desperation to criticise to me. Most of those things aren't new to either phone! It strangely ignores the fact that even the latest Nexus 6 is 50% heavier than the iPhone and not far off twice as thick.... You get what you pay for.Edited by RobM77 on Wednesday 29th October 09:29

It has nothing to do with the N6, was created long before it was even announced. The Nexus 6 is a segment of it's own. Huge QHD display, huge battery.
It's more expensive than previous Nexus devices though.
The "you get what you pay for" hardly has any place comparing the iPhone 6+ to the Nexus, as the Nexus is cheaper (albeit not that much)?
Still, in terms of functionality it's an easy picture to make and does not illustrate the "quality" or "feel" or "easy to work with" of the devices.
Hardly worth the response, as said, it's been posted on the first page of this thread sort of speak.

I've just been reminded that Apple has put in security/restrictions that prevents rolling back to iOS 7.
Does this make these old versions unusable?
I wanted revert my iPad3 back to the last iOS 7 release.
Are we getting into jailbreak territory to be able to install these older iOS versions?

As you rightly say though, if you've already decided upon something before seeing the evidence and facts then you can easily justify your decision by choosing specifically where you put the goalposts, as we see time and time again on here, rather than looking at the whole picture in a balanced way. Ultimately, as you say, that whole picture does usually come down to the operating system and the physical weight and size of a phone for most people. For me those are the attractions of the iPhone 6; I don't actually know how fast the CPU is or what RAM it's got etc, any more than I know the top speed of either of my cars (which I genuinely don't); like most people it's the user experience that's key for me.

I don't think the email attachment thing has been answered yet - In the main body of an email, hold your finger down until it comes up with a menu. From this you can paste the attachment or scroll to the right and select an attachment.
My 4S has just died on me and all my colleagues have newer iphones (snobs!! ), but I'll try that tonight.Gassing Station | Computers, Gadgets & Stuff | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
