Dropped mine in the swimming pool today.

Amazingly it's still working. I'm impressed.

Your lucky
Used mine in a rain shower
Screen went blue then black
Took it back to apple, cost me £220 to have it repaired
When I said surely I should be able to use a phone in the rain
"It's a very complex mini computer not a phone sir
Just leaving in a rain coat can provide enough moisture to ruin it "

I went into London today so got to use 4G for the first time. Seriously fast. cool
It is - although it doesn't, in practice, penetrate far into buildings in the City.

I'm a stone's throw from St Paul's - out on the street I might expect 4G up to 20-30 download speed, but I can't get ANY ''phone signal inside this office. Luckily I can get "The Cloud" from where I'm sitting. Outside, though, 4G is terrific for getting location and directions quickly if nothing else....
worls well in my office in Broadgate. I have a window office. It's faster tha the office wifi.

Lucky bd! That's right - rub it in. I don't see daylight as a contractor. I'm basically locked in a cupboard with other contractors and the IT Crowd....

Took my 6+ back yesterday. It was nearly perfect, but I couldn't deal with the lag and stutters - my wife's 6 doesn't have any of that, but it seems common on the +. Gorgeous screen, though.

i think when the specs were released originally there was murmur about the potential that the graphics infrastructure would struggle to drive the requirements of the larger screen on the 6+. No idea if that's related though.

Seems odd to me that it would be graphics related , isn't the screen just a 1080p screen?

more complicated than that unfortunately:

iPhone 6+ with Retina display HD - Scaling factor is 3 and the image is afterwards downscaled from rendered 2208 × 1242 pixels to 1920 × 1080 pixels.
as i remember it's the downscaling that's the issue, something which the normal 6 doesn't require... something like that anyway.

Interesting, any reason why they didn't keep that resolution? Apparently it would perform better and won't be as far removed from the competition either. It's what they did on the 6,instead of reverting to 720p.

Using the higher resolution and downsizing means that developers don't need to re-built apps as it's in the same 'scale' as the other iPhone resolutions. I bet the next iphone will be the higher res, not 1080p, too.

And yes, I think this is to blame for the stutters. I really believe the iPhone 6 and + have the best screens on the market - they are unbelievable in colour - absolutely gorgeous. I miss the + already from that respect.

Hmm, nice of you to believe that. Still, think it's odd they went for 1080p,while the higher res seemed to be the much more logical pick if the resizing thing is true.

Went from 6 plus to oneplus cynagen to 6. I do not see the appeal of android, in a phone I want simplicity first and foremost and apple seems to do that well. The 6 is the perfect size I think.

Kenu Airframe + for the bigger smartphones. Vent mounted. Pricey but well made and available from Apple stores otherwise online.

I hate to say it but after 20 years using nothing but apple products i am thinking of changing. We have 3 iphone 6 in the family and 2 have had smashed screens due to minor drops in the house. One was £79 to replace and the other was a full swap at £229.

Then we have the imac that will not hold a wifi connection , apple tvs that need a reboot to work every time and the ipad 1 that was rendered obsolete within 18 months of purchase.

Despite spending thousands on apple products over the years i have never had any goodwill regarding repairs at applestores.

Iphones - Careless but it happens and all large glass fronted phones are at risk of a screen break with a minor drop. £79 sounds reasonable to repair one. Do you not have insurance?

iMac - Sounds like it needs looking at, what have you done to try and resolve this issue?

AppleTVs - 4 of these int he family, all upto date all work perfectly. Why do yours need rebooting each time?

iPad 1 - What makes it obsolete? My Dad has one and it's still working fine and in daily use.

Apple user for 30 years here and sometimes I do feel like I'm paying over the odds but as a rule we'v never suffered with any really bad defects. Your kit all sounds like it needs soem basic care and maintenance.

Off the top of my head we've had 8 x desktops, 5 x laptops, 12 x phones, 5 x ipads, 2 x big displays, 4 x ATVS, 2 x timecapsules and one Newton. 1 laptop had a logic board failure at 4 years old that cost us and 1 iPhone5 had a faulty top button which was replaced for free. My wife recently had her 2 year old battery in her iphone5 replaced for free as it was part of faulty batch but it had never been that bad. Of course over the years there have been the odd config issues, OS upgrades making things stop working until a fix is released or I worked out that I needed to make a change etc.

Currently using a Kenu Airframe. Have previously used Brodit Proclips. Would highly recommend either.

Only reason I'm not still using the Brodit is that they don't do a decent (in terms of location) mount for my Z4, otherwise I would have bought another.

1. I know iphones are glass fronted - we have have 4 of each generation and never had problems with the screens. Even the manager in the apple store said they were much more fragile than before. One fell off a bed in a case and cost £229 as they couldnt get a new screen to work.

2. Imac is fine - wifi dropping is a well known issue in latest osx

3. Apple tvs work fine - need a reboot as they dont see the computer to stream movies ( possibly linked to wifi issue)

4. Ipad one was dropped from upgrades after 18 months due to underpowered hardware and the app devopers stopped making or supporting apps

I have 2 imacs , macbook pro , ipad air , 2 minis , 2 apple tvs and 4 iphones currently in use but i do feel a drop in the durability and quality of software updates.

All devices are up to date , properly maintained and looked after.
