exactly so not sure why Apple allows it to happen! They must know more about viral marketing than most if it's a positive thing.

I'd have much rather seen a smaller version, an 'iphone mini', rather than a bigger one.

I did an upgrade on the wife's contract last week and got an HTC One M8. Great phone, but she much prefers the iphone she had before- so will be selling the HTC!

i'd rather have an actual watch thanks. More expensive but won't 'need' refreshing every 6 months.

I hope smart-watches are a bridge too far for the market, certainly for a good few years yet. I am not sure I would be able to resist punching the first person I see in UK with one, or stupid smart glasses. I can only imagine the fountain of smugness they'd be emitting, casually pulling up their sleeve so the other tube passengers can bristle with envy (that's what they'd think was happening anyway).

it's just so transparently a way to get you to spend more money with Apple anyway. People won't spend more no a phone so what can we get the gullible s to buy next? It solves a problem that doesn't exist, but being seen to have spent money to solve the problem means the problem must exist right? So, so st.

While I share your POV on smartwatches, did you also punch the first buffoon that was on a cell phone on the street?

Smartglasses are actually a great idea imho, the applications are near endless.

no i fully agree there will come a time when they are de-rigeur and normal; developed to the point where they are actually of use etc. By then even I will probably have done a U-turn and bought one, but I just hope it happens fair into the future, because as of today they are still laden with tttery. The early adopters will be basically using something which is only really good for showing off, and that's what early adopters are really.

Tell me you don't want punch this guy right in the double-breasted and the push that 18" antenna into his smug eye socket.

I rather suspect the 5 _is_ the small iPhone. I must admit I was surprised when I first saw one, they weren't as big as I was expecting. Any wider would be a bit of a bugger to hold comfortably for me, and I don't exactly have dainty hands.

and you'll have to add a case/bumper onto that width too

Coming from a Galaxy S3, I'm probably going to get a 5S next, for that reason. Just some much nicer to hold and use with one hand.

It won't last forever, which is exactly why Apple are adding a new product to their line-up.

iPhones are only justifiable for many because residuals are strong, which makes the initial cost tolerable by enough people to buy them in their tens of millions.

Now we are seeing increasingly saturated markets the iPhone 4 >> 6 will be rather ubiquitous.

As soon as there is no demand values will fall harder, yet more people will buy them at cheaper prices, and suddenly we'll be in a position similar to more common types of electronic mainstream gear which falls hard in value with time.

Apple won't want that, but it's the way it's going by selling so many.

The watch is just a new market to grab a whole new bunch of buyers and future income which is what Apple needs to satisfy it's share holders. But do people really want watches that cost a lot but are also semi-disposable and need updating? Would you be as tempted to buy a used one? You can't put covers over a watch strap etc.
Unless they won't be updated often, but then that doesn't fit with Apple's current business model either.

Imo it's gonna be a fail for the masses, but Apple will find a niche happy to pay for them imo.

If that is the smallest IP6 against the 5s then I'm out.

Shame really as i quite like the phones and os.

I am sure they will gain many more customers than they will lose, due to size.

I really like the design, it's just the smallest size is still going to be like carrying a BSB Squarial in your pocket.

Hopefully the size thing is just a fad and we get an iPhone 7 Mini.

Yeah I think the size of the current 5 is optimum for me. If that's the small one then the large one is going to be similar to an iPad mini? What's the point?

I'll reserve judgement on the size until I feel it.

I thought the 5 felt flimsy compared the the 4, but I've learned to love it!

Who knows, maybe waiting a week and finding out what's actually happening will tell us, rather than this pure speculation.
