Utter cobblers Durbster.
Of course you can have features AND battery life. It's just none of the manufacturers have the balls to design one. I for one would snap up a S4 or even a Note 3 sized phone with enhanced battery life. Just me?
MrsC still uses the Ludditest of Luddite phone, and her principle reason for not having any sort of smartphone (other than being a Luddite) is the battery life - she simply doesn't want something she has to charge once a day or more.Of course you can have features AND battery life. I own an s3 and an iphone5 and all I want better from those phones is battery life. Seriously if one or the other were to release a statement to the tune of, you don't need finger print recognition or super HD games its just a phone so here we spent all our r&d money on battery tech so it will now last a week. I would buy that one whomever made it.
I've started turning the data off on my S3 and it does wonders for your battery life. I still make a few calls a day and will turn the data on to download emails, but I can now get through a day using about 25% of my battery. Try it, it really makes a big difference!CaptainSensib1e said:

Aye, if I want to save battery I switch wifi and data off.And thanks for reminding me because I was going to set a Tasker profile up so it automatically switches the wifi on every hour or so for 15 minutes to collect any notifications, then switch it off again. That way I wouldn't miss much but it wouldn't need to be constantly online. I reckon that would do wonders for battery life...

what's the point in buying a latest smartphone and switching off the data? and even more importantly, why would you do that if you end up with 75% battery at the end of the day? no electricity at home to charge it over night?rottie102 said:

Hopefully they will put the FM radio back in, they took it out with the S4. Don't see why I should have to use data to listen to the radio. That was the main reason for not upgrading the S3 to the S4.
As for the debate about plastic or metal case, not really bothered so long as it has decent reception for the radios.

Samsung has called a press conference for 24 February, at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, where it is widely expected to unveil the Galaxy S5 smartphone, its new flagship device. The event in Barcelona is called 'Unpacked 5'. The company's previous top phone, the Galaxy S4, was unveiled in March 2013. The S5 is expected to hit the market in April.
It's been announced. 5.1" Full HD, 16mp camera, finger print scanner, polycarbonate build, water and dust resistant, etc.
What does everyone think? I can't help but feel slightly disappointed, can't really put a finger on it. Since the iPhone 4 was launched, no phone has had the same "I want one" factor. Maybe a Nexus 5 at £240 is the way forward after all.

Thought it was going to be metal?
Not really much of a bump from today's phones.
I think all the giant leaps have been made to be honest, combined with the fact of yearly releases means changes will only be incremental. Not really much of a bump from today's phones.
It may not be a huge upgrade from the S4, but from the S3 (or older) its probably a worthwhile upgrade.
Fingerprint scanner linked to Paypal, monster camera spec (love the autofocus times), enhanced battery (though I did buy a 4500mh for my S3 and I get 4-5 days use out of it now) - And as for the heart rate sensor - not for me that one ;-)
As was said, a good upgrade from the S3 (which I thought the S4 wasn't)

I'm not sure why this is "underwhelming". As mentioned earlier, pretty much everything you can get in a phone is available in all the current models. There are minor variations in the underlying tech but nothing that turns one into any more of a beacon than any other. The rest is all about aesthetics, metal vs plastic etc. (I have not problem with the plastic S3 so why should I want a metal one).
It is therefore down to individual choice and at the end of the day the S5 ticks all the right boxes for me.

Incidentally, my Galaxy S2 had a tizz once which essentially meant no apps were running, so all it did was phone calls and texts. Out of curiosity I left it to see how that affected battery life and it was good for 5 days, rather than the typical 1-2 I would get usually, so the potential is there.
My S2 was on 7 days and 17hrs last night. 20% left.Edited by durbster on Friday 17th January 09:19
In regards to innovation I really can't see me replacing my S2 unless it breaks. Screen is more than big enough, and is sharp and clear. It appears to run any game/ app so far and it's very nice to surf, navigate and check mail on. And I like the simple black shape and the plastic makes it light. I guess more advanced, power hungry apps might force my hand.

That's ridiculous battery life. I take it you're running some custom ROM?In regards to innovation I really can't see me replacing my S2 unless it breaks. Have to agree about the S2, it was really miles ahead of its time. I was amused the other day when I noticed that it's still one of the lightest phones around too.
The only time it shows its age is with the camera which is far too slow to launch and snap. Taking photos of the dog is almost impossible.
