Love my htc one, hate the fact it is metal, well done samsung, plastic phones bounce when dropped metal phones thud and shatter the screen. Went from galaxy s2. To htc one, definitely going back to Samsung with the s5.

My S2 was on 7 days and 17hrs last night. 20% left.
yikes WTF?!?!

I'm on 8 hours max with barely any use and a new battery t'boot.

How the hell have you got 7 days???
What he didn't mention was that it hasn't been used for anything during that time period. My S3 battery gives me 4 days of use on 1 charge just from average phone/text use, bit of web etc and having it on power saving mode.

What's the point of spending money on a smartphone then if you will only use features available on Nokia 6310?
It's like buying a veyron and only ever driving it to a shop at 30mph.

You sound like someone who still has a cassette player at home and just now considering upgrading to a Cd player...

I stopped being interested then I saw they stuck with the same plastic construction, the day they learn a premium product needs to feel premium is the only day the iPhone needs to worry.

p.s own an S4, so not any kind of apple fan
I always find the Apple fans who sneer at the plastic cases almost always have their phones wrapped in some godawful plastic case anyway....

I agree a metal case would've been nice but it doesn't bother me with my S3.

Tend to follow the idea that a premium product should have a premium feel, something that Samsung are apparently incapable of doing on their phones.

Its not to say that plastic devices can't have a premium feel. I've got a 4S and a Nokia 1020. The 4S probably feels a little nicer than the 1020, but there isn't a lot in it. But compare the feel of either to a SGS3 or 4 and the Samsung does feel cheap in comparison.

Although the 4S is probably more glass than metal ... a primarily metal design feels considerably better - my old Nokia N8 still feels better than either the 4S or 1020 smile

Absolutely this, this and this again.

I have absolutely no desire for a metal case anyway but it will always go in some sort of protective cover so I really don't understand the looks bit - I want function

It doesn't need to be metal to feel premium. The Nexus 5 feels plenty premium and against it the Samsung GS4 feels awful.

I don't use a protective cover (ooh, Matron!). What's the point if you're buying a thin, good looking phone and then lobbing it in a thick, ugly plastic or leather case.
As an earlier caller pointed out, plastic cases can be made to feel top quality (as does my Nokia Lumia from which I'm currently posting). The S4 doesn't have that, it always felt like it'd snap if you got too excited with the keypad.

OK - I kind of get this. When I got my S3 a couple of years ago I had never dropped a phone. Within 2 days I dropped it and a small crack appeared in the top left side of the screen. I lived with it for almost a year (I did however go out and buy my first ever protection - such a tart!!). I like the feel of a naked S3 and am certain that had the shell been metal the additional brittleness (is that a word?) would likely have caused more significant screen damage......

Swings & roundabouts at the end of the day and taste is very individual

When we went to the states I turned roaming data, and wifi off, and I then stuck it in the wall safe. A week later it still had charge. That was on a standard phone.
Why didn't you just turn the phone off before putting it in the safe?
So it would still recieve texts if any one needed to contact me. I checked it every day, and it didn't seem to be draining!

confusedhehe

Did it not occur to you to leave it switched off in the safe and then when you took it out of the safe, switch it on and read any sent texts, which would arrive on your phone within a few moments of locking on to a transmitter?

I got 8 days and 19 hours in the end! smile There were at least a few texts a day and one or two phone calls in that time, plus a bit of calander/ calculator use. So OK not a heavy user, but I'm happy the phone and battery are in good health as I want to keep the good old S2 for as long as possible. What's up with black, square and - yes - plastic? I don't want fussy designs. I don't want a heavy lump in my pocket, which I WILL drop. smile

Honestly, doesn't seem a patch on the Z2 that was announced earlier in the day. The Z2 has nicer build, better camera, better specs, bigger screen, doesn't have TouchWiz, is more waterproof and has a digital out to hook up to a DAC. The S5 counters with a fingerprint sensor which doesn't work, and a fairly pointless heart rate sensor.
Dont forget stereo speakers and built in noise cancellation!

The S5 still looks nice though. I am interested to see the camera's performance - on YouTube the S5 still looked laggy taking pictures.

I've been thinking about switching from my iPhone 5 to the S5 when it got released, but I couldn't wait any longer, ordered a Galaxy Note 3 instead. Hopefully I made a good decision!

Did you get a backpack to go with it? smile

I don't understand how a phone of that size is considered "mobile".

How is it any less mobile than a small paperback book? Smaller too.
