Well I plumped for TSOhost today, I'm sure they'll struggle to migrate my massively complex webshyte - in more that 30s Went for the cheapest cloud hosting option at £14.99, so down from £50odd at R1 for a year, as really it's just for the email these days.
I guess my domains will still be managed by Serverstream/Tucows but that's probably not the end of the world.
Cheers,
Rob

I had to pay for all my others. And they charge extra for hiding ownership details too!
Small price for peace of mind, I guess, but they're no bargain solution.

on the web migration stuff it goes on about you (me) having to update the name servers as they (TSO) can't do that, which I thought if t was in their control should be more straight forward.
Yes, their website says that - but if you phone them and ask nicely, they do it for you. SGirl said:

I had a nosy at my Serverstream domain control panel yesterday, looks simple enough to change name servers and I was able to make my co.uk anonymous at the click of a checkbox, option wasn't available for my .com address though so it wouldn't take Sherlock to figure out the co.uk owner Is there any reason not to leave my domain control with Serverstream? How linked to their failing networking skills are they?
Cheers,
Rob
We've been having DNS issues with one of our key domains. The last straw was an attempt to change it's A record towards a new web host. Propagation was all over the place and didn't settle down after a week, one minute listing the new IP, the next the old.
A dig into their DNS setup via a number of online diagnostic sites showed a host of problems. Rather than try and get to the bottom of it via support tickets, I simply switched the domain to TSOHost. Within a few hours everything was working, I was able to get the domain records setup and propagation was remarkably swift.
Since then, no problems and our mail server issues have coincidentally disappeared too.... I'll be switching all our other domains over too now.

So I haven't paid my renewal for a month now, but the server is still up and running and I can access the control panel.
Free server!
Good luck with that when they finally turn it off.Free server!
I'm sure you'll get plenty of warning emails and obviously be totally prepared to instantly switch over to your 'hot-back-up' site.

Funny you should say that. I just checked my Reg1 server, it's officially been offline for over a month now but I can still access it. Free server!
Heyho. I'm sure it'll come in handy for something. I just can't think what.

What you talking 'bout Winston?I've been waiting months to use that phrase on one of your posts - yeah, yeah, yeah I know it was Willis and not Winston.
Last time I had beers (it was many many beers and a few years back) with Jamie, he told me he just ran Register1 for the craic & community.
The electricity bill alone for the data-centre made the average IT-datacentre-owner's salary look like something you'd flip into the second hand Starbuck's coffee cup offered up to you by a tramp at Old Street Tube Station.
Sad to see it go, but once it was sold off did anyone really expect anything else?
I blame the windy mills.
