Anybody else got one on here? Previous to buying my Acer C710 in 2013 I used a Linux acer laptop as my everyday machine and I've also got a Linux desktop aswell as my Android Galalxy S4.
Bought the Acer C710 as a toy really to play with but I carry it everywhere with me now and use it most hours of the day. I have upgraded it to 4GB (from factory 2gb.
I've recently been thinking of upgrading to the Acer C720 just so I get better battery life (C710 lasts about 3.5 hours) but now very tempted by the Toshiba 13.
Who's got what?

I have had the Samsung ARM one for nearly a year now. I use it constantly and have not switched my ipad on since getting it. Great for travel and useful for streaming music too (completely silent operation with no fan or hard drive).
None of the current models are tempting me to change at the moment but I think there will a few attractive options coming out over the next few months - not least the Lenovo Chromebook Yoga. Can't wait for Chromecast to be launched here either...

Microsoft don't like them (obviously) - makes for interesting reading though.
I think Microsoft are giving Google great publicity - you can almost smell the fear.I'm thinking about getting the HP one (now that they've fixed it!) or the Acer. The HP screen gets good reviews which is one area where the Samsung isn't spectacular. Haven't seen the Toshiba one yet. I think I read Dell are making one too so should be quite a bit of choice in the coming months.
Battery life, size and weight make these ideal machines for travelling if you prefer a proper keyboard to a tablet.

The screen on the HP 11 is much better than the one on the Samsung but otherwise they are very similar. I have a feeling that there will be a serious step-change in specs. when Lenovo start cranking out their promised range of models and the rumoured 8-core ARM Samsung with double the screen resolution finally appears.Battery life, size and weight make these ideal machines for travelling if you prefer a proper keyboard to a tablet.
Hi all. I entered the win a chromebook competition with Google last year. It was for the HP 11 model which had the charger problem.
Fast forward to this year and I received it last week. It is a truly lovely laptop. The screen is amazing as are the speakers.
I seem to be getting 5-6 hours battery on it with mixed use. All in all I recommend it.

has anyone tried the new toshiba one yet ?

14 inch screen, and an intel ( ie non arm ) processor, sounds great, and should be able to run crouton on it to get a proper desktop.
I'll be trying one for this in a few weeks.

I've got the new HP 14 Haswell Intel chromebook, and it's very good. As a power user I thought I'd have to turn developer access on out of the box to do stuff like SSH tunneling, but the terminal lets me do pretty much what I need. I didn't want to mess around too much with it as its predominantly for the wife. She loves it.
For the price point and hardware you get for it, I don't think you can go wrong.

I'm coming from a Dell D610, ( v old celeron 14" ) used for general home use, and an ibm thinkpad 420s i5 14" at work.
Screen on the tosh is way better than the dell, tho clearly not as good as the ibm.
Sizewise, its bigger than I was expecting, not as tiny as the samsung s3 chromebooks, but still very thin. Not macbook air thin, but not far off.
At the moment I'm still running the chrome os, which seems fine, and I'll stick with this for a week or two, just to check there are no hardware faults lurking, but then I plan to install linux mint, which is what I've been running on my home systems for the past 3 or 4 years. This looks pretty easy to do..
Main 'wow' factor so far tho, is how quickly it boots, literally seconds, battery life, ( the dell even with a new battery was struggling at the hour mark, the ibm manages about 2.5hrs..), and how good it feels for the £250.
I'll update in a week or two, after I'm installed linux on it, but so far I think I'll be keeping it.
Can I ask if anybody is using the Spotify streaming web service on their Chromebook ?
From what I can gather Spotify are still using Flash which means lots of reports of it not working on Chromebooks.
It definitely doesn't work on the latest versions of Chrome, even with the suggested 'fixes', but I never noticed until yesterday as my daily browser is usually Chromium which seems to handle it slightly differently i.e. Spotify works.

Not sure about Spotify, I've switched to play music ages ago (all-in-all, much better package imho) which of course is great on the chromebook.
I found it a great machine and, as much as I enjoy some MS products (MS Server, SQL Server, Office,...), their article does smell like fear.
For the money, you really, really can't go wrong.

it works on my chromebook fine, but in the chromium browser that is built in.
not sure there is a native client or app ?
I'm running it from
https://play.spotify.com

I have been using it with no problems since I got my Samsung ARM last March (I found a link to the beta on a Chromebook forum somewhere). From what I can gather Spotify are still using Flash which means lots of reports of it not working on Chromebooks.

I might consider upgrading the forthcoming Samsung Chromebook 2 if it has Bluetooth APTX support - I use it a fair bit for music.
Edited to say 'no problems' rather than 'problems'. Rather changes the thrust of the message.
