Agree with you about the Z2 being competition. Oddly though I think the S5 will romp away as people will just buy it as a default upgrade from their S4...

The One M8 really is excellent and deserves to do well.
Samsung has become the default not iphone choice.

I was talking to my other half about her next phone last night. She has an S3 at the moment. She asked me what Samsung mine was, I explained to her about Android and then she said "yeah, but android is Samsung right?". Infuriating.

The S5 will sell well becuase of the brand name, just like the iphone does. The M8 and Z2 will fight it out for 2nd place in the market.
I think this is the case, sadly.

I currently have a Galaxy S3 and I wouldn't have another one. The slow down after 12 months was unreal and now (22 months) it is almost unbearable.

Then you just need to look at what you actaully get for the money. The Z2, HTC and GS5 are all about the same price and on similar priced contracts. The Galaxy looks cheap and seems to sell itself on gimmicks, whereas the Z2 and HTC look like premium products, albeit still with their own gimmicks.

For simple PH man-maths; do I buy the top spec Mondeo, Mercedes or Audi if they all cost the same price? Okay, they all do the same job and, bar a few little bits, they are all pretty much the same spec. So in the end it comes down to quality and looks; something the Galaxy sorely lacks.

So, now my issue. The GF now has the HTC and I finish my contract in 2 months; so do I get the HTC like her or go for the alternative Z2...?

Get the Z2 and swap with her if you prefer the HTC...?

Actually, that's a very real option.

The HTC contract is in my name and she did want the Z2, but was sick of waiting for it to come out.

HTC must be overjoyed that the Z2 keeps getting delayed.

Looks like it's possible now to turn the One M8 into a Nexus.

It's what I would be doing. In fact the end of the above convo I mentioned with my other half resulted in us deciding that she would be ordering a Z2 when it comes to it.

Dread to think how little the airtime bit of the contracts must cost them then if the phone alone costs about the same as I paid for my contract and phone back when the Sensation was new eek

Exactly this.

The guy from EE told us they had sold out stupidly quick and we'd have to wait until mid-week before their next delivery. Luckily the manager overheard and knew they'd had two come in an hour beforehand.

O/T a little; I called 02 today to cancel my GF's contract. There seemed no desire to keep me as a customer; although I am a little thankful as it was a painless process. I remember not 5-10 years ago that cancelling your contract resulted in the network entering into intense negotiation in a bid to keep you with them.

Unlimited calls and texts or unlimited data? Your post is a little mixed up.

Three are doing unlimited everything for £44 a month or 600mins/unlim data for £41 a month.

EE are doing a deal right now for unlimited minutes/texts and 4GB of data for £37 a month.

Vodafone are doing unlimited minutes/texts and 2GB of data for £37.50 a month if you know someone who works for the NHS and will fill in a 5 minute form.

Those are the best I have seen so far.

I can get a 20% discount on Orange as the wife is teacher, but it means I'll lose my number so not an option.

Yes, I ment unlimted calls & texts with 1gb data.

Why will you lose your number?

I spoke to O2 at lunch, they've sent my GF a PAK code and tomorrow I'll call EE and have her number moved to her new phone...

Because the new phone will have to be in her name due to her being the teacher (teachers get the 20% off) & they say it's non transferable to another person

That sounds like a bit of bks to me. All they do usually is send you the code, and then you type it in on the new contract. It shouldn't really matter whose name its in. Also, could you change the name on the old contract to match?

For those of you who already have one of these in your possession, how have you found the camera? I'm not someone who takes a lot of photos, nor spends hours editing and cropping them, but I would expect the picture quality of my next smartphone to surpass that offered by the Galaxy S3 (which I always thought had a pretty good camera) especially with a holiday in the US coming up!
