Seems like a good deal.

I'm paying £48 for 5GB of 4G data, unlimited calls/texts, free Spotify. Does your deal include Spotify?
No mention of Spotify but I might have to angle for that. Is that with Voda?
Yep. I saved £10 a month as I already subscribed to Spotify Premium. It was a seamless transition too, preserving all my playlists etc.

Glad you got it OK. smile

I really liked it but I just couldn't get on with it being a flip case. Seeing the display do its thing when calls come in etc is very neat though isn't it!

I'm going to take the plunge on one of these, moving from a Blackberry which I only ever used as a phone and emailer, i've never so much as downloaded an app so could be in for quite a shock laugh

It's a very well designed case that almost perfectly complements the M8. The selling feature is obviously the dot-view cover, but the clever bit is what's not obvious; the cover is literally just holes that reach through to the screen. The phone knows when the cover is on, and the screen adapts accordingly, displaying everything through said holes in the case, giving the illusion of the case itself having the display.

It's also smart enough to auto-lock the screen with the case closed, and auto-unlock the screen when you open the case, as well as have enough sensitivity to pick up (or decline!) calls even when the case is closed by swiping across the front of it. The double-tap to wake feature still works to, displaying, time, weather and temperature if you activate it with the case closed.

It's a bit gimmicky, but it gets people's attention and everyone wants a play just because it so unique, and there aren't many things smartphone-related these days that haven't been done before. This is one.

The only downside? Well, as Funk has already moved it on for this reason, this won't come as to big a shock, but the fact it's a flip case is kind of a pain. I've not had a flip case for years, and here the case always wants to snap shut; it's not magnetised or anything but seems to spring back shut unless its held open, and it doesn't fold behind the phone in a way that feels particularly natural if you try to manage it that way. That might get tiresome quite quickly, especially when navigating webpages, which sometimes require two hands.

So, yes, it's a very cool thing, but not without caveats. In which case...

What sort of deals are people being offered on the M8? Just had a call from Vodafone telling my my One X is for upgrade offering me unlimited calls and texts and 2gb of 3G data for £33.60 a month or 5gb of 4G data for £37.60 a month.

Any good or are the better deals out there? I'm not desperate to stay with Vodafone to be honest, their 3G reception is pretty ropey where I live and I can't imagine the 4G being any better.
I was looking at this today. I've got a one X and am with Tmobile currently paying £ 33, a month.

I can upgrade to a M8 on EE starting from £ 39, a month.

Still reading up on the M8 now, my main annoyance with current one X is the battery life, my phone gets really hot fast (got this app, showing temp's from 40 to 50 degrees) and then it just discharges the battery.

I just noticed the M8 only has a 4 MP camera, whilst my current one X has a 8 MP camera i think. What do people think about the camera on the M8, is it any good ?

Also just looked at this comparison between my current one X and the M8 and noticed that under HDMI it states nothing for the M8, but "via microUSB" on the one X.

I've got this cable from ebay that i hook up to my one X that hooks it up to any HDMI tv so you can watch films/series from your phone on any tv (handy in hotels etc). Does that mean it won't work on the M8 any more ?

Cheers. Look a little pricey compared to the ebay specials I was using on my One X (which I subsequently ran without a protector with no problems for the 2nd year). I've not noticed anything marring the One M8 but the advantage with this (over the One X) is that the screen is flat to the edge which means you don't get the same lifting issues and clag round the sides.

Could you let me know how you get on with yours before I take the plunge?
Wel I reeived this today. Nice little package. Simple instructions. Still an absolute bh to get in place properly though. I haven't got it right yet, and in the process I have a couple of bits of dust stuck under it now too. UUuuurrgh it is annoying.
Quality of the thing actually is nice though, quite a lot thicker than I was expecting too.

Annoyingly I have a scratch on my camera lens. Not in the way of the camera luckily but still enough to piss me off.

The MHL adapter that worked with my One X does not work with my M8. That's not to say it's the phone though as other sources suggest it should work.

If I'm brutally honest, I can't remember the last time I used my MHL connector anyway. If someone wants it they're welcome to it for the cost of P&P.

I went from the X to M8 and wouldn't want to go back. Even when new I was having to charge the X every night, whereas the M8 is good for a couple of days between charges (unless I absolutely hammer it, and even then it holds up better than the X ever did in similar heavy-usage scenarios).

Whilst the camera on the X was able to pick out finer details and generally seemed slightly less noisy, the M8 camera more than makes up for that by being blindingly fast and less likely to play "hunt the focus" as soon as you try taking a photo in less than ideal lighting conditions. Just make sure you have plenty of free storage space before you start playing with the burst mode... Given perfect conditions and plenty of time to get the shot just right I'd prefer to take a photo with the X, but in real world conditions where you don't always have that luxury the M8 gives you a much better chance of grabbing at least one photo that's useable.

Build quality is superb - although the X wasn't particularly bad here (and certainly felt far more solid than the similarly plastic-bodied offerings from Samsung), the M8 has an air of absolute solidity about it.

The only niggles I have with it are down to the changes both Google and HTC have made to Android and HTC Sense - it seems like each release of Android pushes the UI further down the road towards monochromatic blandless and over-simplified icons which remind me less and less of whatever it is they're supposed to be representing, and HTC have followed along with the look and feel of the Sense add-ons. With both homescreens configured the same way and the two phones sat side by side, the X looks just that bit less bland and that bit more inviting. However, get past the surface appearance, start playing around with them both, and it's pretty clear which of the two phones is the better device overall.
