I don't think I can say I have ever owned such a good phone!

When I was a teenager dad was a area manager for a large phone retailer from stoke ... and I always had the latest phones... Smart Phones I went from HTC Stela to iPhone and then to Samsung Galaxy S1,2,3,4.

As per my previous post HTC hardware + GPE is the way to go... in my opinion anyway.

I'm going to be jumping ship to the new Nexus 6P at some stage. I get a ridiculous deal with EE on my contract phone and they're adding it to the list of devices they supply. I'm waiting to see whether they're going to bork it with their own firmware and crud - I suspect and hope not as the entire point of Nexus phones is that they run pure, unadulterated Android and I can't see Google letting EE fk with it...

Don't think they are allowed to.

...in which case I've found my next phone.

It'll end a run of HTC fanboyism:

G1
G2/Hero
Desire
One X
One M8

HTC would have to pull something pretty spectacular out of the bag in the next couple of months if I'm going to stick with them.

I have a Nexus 7 and a Samsung Tab S 8.4 - the Nexus is my go-to device of the two, the Samsung is a little laggy by comparison and I don't really like TouchWiz but it DOES have 4G so it stays for now. I might find a way to get rid of both and get a new Nexus tablet with 4G connection which would be perfect.

There is some kind of HTC event today in Brooklyn I think. Although I may have dreamed that.

5pm London time, I don't know if I can bare to tune in though, I hate these things.

I hope it's a decent phone being announced though. For the first time possibly ever, I've kept a phone for more than 12 months. I didn't see the M9 as much of an upgrade to the M8 and my M8 still runs as good as it did on day 1. Normally by now a battery is shagged or the phone has slowed down or I've scratched the st out of it but not this time.

My M8's doing well at 18 months old but like you, I don't see the M9 as any form of upgrade worth making. As I say, they'll need to come up trumps to turn my head from the (also metal) 6P...

Just watched it, I wasn't fully concentrating but the new phone is called the HTC One A9 and basically looks very similar to an iPhone 6 (no bad thing). They spoke of the excellent camera/screen etc. as they always do. Didn't hear anything game changing but as I said I was only half listening. Will probably get one.

There's an SD slot then - always a good thing smile

The only gripes I have are the stupid beep when you hang up calls and I don't think my battery is in great nick. Seems to be fine down to about 12 or 13 percent then just conks out.
Mine is the exact same. It's a little frustrating as it just goes. Sometimes it can be as high as 15-16% for me.

Midrange phone, sits below M. Looks nice enough but isn't making my man-parts tingle.

SD slot is a plus. I'm really unsure why all phones don't come with them; the cash gouging for built-in 64 or 128Gb is a bit off given how cheap memory is. My 64Gb mSD card was about £25 I think.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow update came last night for my M8 GPE!

I have had 6.0 on my Nexus 9 for a few days and its very good with battery now, but Doze can disable notifications if your not careful so I've set the usual stuff like Gmail,Hangouts etc not to be affected by Doze.

The GUI looks a little better for some reason as well, especially the lock screen!

I've had 6.0 on my N7 for a few weeks and it's one of the reasons I'm keen on the Nexus 6P. It's matured into a very nice OS.

The M8 build quality wise has been the worst HTC I've ever had. Having issues charging it now.

I need a new phone soon and with the S7 Edge being announed in recent days it's getting difficult to resist the urge to buy one, I guess I'm holding our for Htc to pull their finger out with the M10.

Waiting for the M10 too, but I'll probably get a Galaxy S7. The S7 edge is cool, but I'm not willing to put up with the increase in size over what is already a large phone, it's 8mm taller.

A couple of colleagues have got S6s and they're endlessly complaining about how slow the phones have become over time. Seems to be an issue with Touchwiz, my Tab S 8.4 is terrible in that respect too.

I have this problem too, and I've tried most things short of a full reset with no effect. I still think Sense is miles and miles ahead of Touchwiz, but the S6/S7 phones are amazing hardware wise.

It'll be interesting to see what HTC do with the M10, I wonder will they try something different to make themselves stand out like LG have done with the modular G5?

Just stop using touchwiz then and install another launcher like Google Now for example.

You can't. Touchwiz affects every part of the interface and is ingrained, the launcher is the least of the issues (I'm already using Google Now on my Tab S btw)...

What's remarkable is how Samsung can take such amazing hardware and make it run so badly. I've just put 6.0 on my M8 and it's as slick as my 6P. I actually wondered why I upgraded the other night, the M8 is that good...
