Sony Xperia Z2

So then, who's going for one of these?
I see thanks to Funk on the M8 thread that pricing has been announced. Clove have a preorder bundle available http://www.clove.co.uk/sony-xperia-z2

I can see why Sony have gotten this out so quickly, there's a lot of competition at the top end currently. I'm going to hang fire for the official information on the New One but this is currently a top contender.
I like a lot of the functionality of the Samsung S5 but it just doesn't look and feel like a premium product. Is the Z2 IP rated?
Psst - it's 'Xperia' btw Can a mod change the title? My OCD is in overdrive...!!

Oh now this is interesting, I'm caught in two minds now, I was about to organise a Z1 Compact to replace my Arc S but now there is the Z2 option if I wait.
My only issue is the Z2 is rather large for my liking , yes it's not very deep and is relatively light but it's barely pocket size.

They did a compact last time, will they do one this time round too?My only issue is the Z2 is rather large for my liking , yes it's not very deep and is relatively light but it's barely pocket size.
I've got a Z1 and it is by far the best phone I've owned.
It feels nice, much nicer than the S3 it replaced and much quicker. However the ringer is a little quiet but I'm guessing it's down to teh waterproofness.
It was nice to be able to take it in a pool and not have to worry about dropping it.

Looking at the specs the main benefits a Z2 offers over a Z1 Compact are the 1920x1080 full HD display screen (vs 1280x720) , the ability to record 4K video although not quite sure how that works when both models offer the same camera and the Z2 offers 1GB more RAM from a marginally 2.3ghz vs 2.2 quicker processor.
The Z1C is 19mm shorter 9mm narrower.
I am torn between the galaxy S5, the Z2 and the new HTC one.
I already have the HTC one and love it sooo much, but I don't usually like getting a refreshed version of my current handset so unless the new HTC one is really special I will probably leave it until I need to renew my business smartphone.
So that leaves the galaxy S5 and the Z2.
I had an S3 before my HTC one, and I loved it. TheS5 looks great, although as usual it seems Samsung have to put some useless stuff on it... The heartbeat monitor, a poor solution. It would have been much better if you got a bracelet which constantly monitors your heartbeat ( Sony have one of these)
The finger swipe... I remain to be convinced by that too.
The camera looks good though, a real update. Although I've read that the blurred background feature on it is pretty poor, which is a real shame.
Amoled screen... Look great indoors and good for energy saving, plus removable battery... But poor outdoor ability.
The Z2.... Looks nicer IMO. More waterproof than the S5. Far less guff built into the OS (I think that the Z2 uses 4gb of the memory, the S5 uses 8gb!). Really nice IPS screen... Better outdoor performance, more accurate color but uses more juice.
Camera... Has the potential to be better all round. Blurred background feature reportedly much better than the S5s. Has a dedicated button for the camera on the side, which is great. I don't know about low light, but is meant to be very good. Same with speed, but not entirely sure yet. Both of these are important to me: you need to be able to capture that shot fast, and the dedicated button potentially makes the sony a winner here.
Built in noise cancellation, and digital out. You can buy a set of really cool digital stereo microphones for the z2. As a bird enthusiast, this really speaks to me.
No removable battery, but battery is significantly larger than the S5.
Stereo speakers on the front, the S5 still has a single one on the rear ( seriously, this is a serious oversight. As a surveyor I walk around listening to music on my HTC one, and in the bath, washing the car etc. No more crappy mono rear speakers please!)
Bundled headphones far superior on the Sony
Both have sdcard ports, but the S5 reportedly takes 128gb to the Sony's 64gb. A small advantage for the Sammy.
So that's where I am at the moment. I'm hoping that anandtech review both so I can make my mind up. Brian Klug's reviews are by far the most detailed and intelligent reviews of smartphones.
But it looks like Sony have finally managed to build a serious challenger for the android smartphone crown, and that's got to be a good thing for all of us

So...
The M8 is out, a few on here already have it and reports appear to be great, apart from some camera concerns.
What's the feeling in here?
I've had an email from O2 asking me if I would like to place a pre-order on the Z2.
I'm looking at the Unlimited mins/texts - 8gb - 4g £19.99 up front and the £48 a month (I'll be getting a significant discount on the monthly cost).

If it is anything like the Z then not much. Sony seem to leave Android reasonably close to vanilla and the apps it does have aren't particularly intrusive.
I would also add that several of their apps are massive improvements over stock - the Walkman music player and Album picture gallery are particularly impressive. You also get the obligatory Sony Entertainment Network products, but they are easily ignored and really don't get in the way. I've preordered a purple Z2 on O2 with 8gb data. I will be getting the stereo mic and really like the SBH-80 headphones: http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/products/acces...
Does the Z2 come with the charging cradle? I have seen a boxed Z2 with both headphones and cradle so heres hoping.

So the Nokia pureview 808 has finally been toppled as best smartphone camera by the Z2:
Sony Xperia Z2 unseats Nokia 808 Pureview in DxOMark camera ranking http://androidcommunity.com/sony-xperia-z2-unseats...
Impressive results for the Sony. Can't wait to try mine out.
