Paul, I know that if you use a Sony cover the dock comes with an adaptor which allows use with the case on or off (it's a sleeve for the dock).

On another Z2 related topic, have you seen the amazing image stabilisation in video recording on the Z2?! Looks very impressive indeed!

Take a look at this YouTube video and see for yourself!

Good review here from The Register - they're normally pretty anti-Sony in my experience, they seem to like this one (and the Z1 Compact for that matter)

The Verge have a stinking review of the Z2, that should be avoided like the plague: they say the screen is completely unreadable outside, the camera is rubbish and its boring and slow.

This is contrary to everything written elsewhere about the phone. Still, it was a really great review as they reviewed the Z2 tablet at the same time in the same review! What a joke, obviously the Z2 isn't good enough to warrant a review on its own.

The Verge is a deeply irritating site; they are just brimming with love for themselves, their narcissism reminds me of Chris Evans and the Breakfast Crew circa 1995. Their podcast is almost un-listenable as they shout across each other constantly, and they are all desperate to gibber and blurt out their vacuous quips and 'in-jokes' instead of actually making any meaningful discussion regarding technology. Truly dreadful.

Be interesting to hear how it performs outside, Graculus. Also, I would love to see some photosphere images using the new Google Camera app that's come out - do you think that might be something your interested in Graculus?

Some people on the vodafone forum, as soon as they got their phones, chucked them straight in the sink full of water to prove the waterproofness. Very good apparently! Lol.

Good to hear about that magnetic dock will work with a phone cover fitted too. smile

Funny how there is often one or two groups who will slate an otherwise very popular item, perhaps it's a good way of generating page hits, a la PH lets have a FWD bashing session.

I want to know more about the Z2 Compact !!!

It's not great outside but it's no worse than any other phone I've seen. Let's face it, no screen of this type is good in direct sunshine.

I've actually tried photo sphere in the Google Camera app and found that it froze around half way on every occasion, leaving me with a panorama rather than a sphere. It may be a bug but I'm going to try deleting and reinstalling it.

I the idea of the Z2 but struggling to justify the Z2 over the Z1. Doing a back to back comparison on the gsmarena site doesn't highlight enough to justify a £200 premium on the price tag.

To a large extent all phones suffer from this now, I think most of the big leaps have been made in the last 4/5 years or so. Smaller, incremental changes will be where it goes from here I think.

That said I've gone S3 -> S5, whilst its not "wow this is amazing" type stuff it is a much nicer phone.

Oh dear, thats annoying - it works with my HTC One (M7) and the results are Ok, but the Z2 has the potential to produce stunning photospheres. I hope you sort it!

Looks like my Z2 will be turning up around May 1....

Yes, definitely think S3 to S5 is a good move. The S5 looks lovely, I flipped-flopped between the Z2 and S5 for a while, although I went for the Z2 - annoying because if I had chosen the S5 it would be in my hand now! Z1 to Z2 though... I wouldn't upgrade. I would wait six months or so for the Z3!

How about going from a HTC One to a Z2? I've only had my HTC One for about eight months and love it but I really do like the look of the Z2. Anybody able to comment or am I better off waiting for the Z3 (out in time for Christmas?).

Cheers.

My upgrade decision is S3 to Z2 or S3 to Z1.

Either one is a good upgrade but can't decide between the Z1 or the Z2.

Thats exactly what I'm doing. I love the HTC One, best phone Ive ever had, but I've beaten it up pretty bad. I want the Z2 for the waterproofing and awesome camera!

If you can get the Z2, definitely don't get the Z1!

Well, my £4.85, ebay special, USB magnetic charging cable arrived today and works perfectly!

Should actually have bought a second for the car but didn't want to be too extravagant...

My Z2 arrived a couple of days ago! Loving it already. Amazing battery life, amazing camera, amazing sound with the noise cancelling headphones. Sound is great, so is the screen.

Photosphere's are brilliant on it!

I also bagged a Tablet Z for £99 as an offer so looking forward to getting that as well.

Ordered a magnetic dock for a tenner, I'll see what its like and get a Sony one if its rubbish (Sony one is £24). Also want to get the wrist band (£70). Sony also do bluetooth headphones (SBH80s) which are about £70 but look really nice.

Mine arrived on Friday biggrin

After playing with it over the weekend I have come to a conclusion; it's fking brilliant!

I'll summarise my experiences so far:

  • Operating System: Pretty much the same as other Android phones, albeit less manufacturer junk bolted on. I'd say it was pretty 'vanilla', certainly less bloatware compared to Samsung et al.
  • Screen: Fantastic quality. Very rich, vivid display, good size without being too much. I'm impressed.
  • Speakers: Very important to me and I wasn't disappointed. Not as good as the HTC One, but front facing, loud and quite bassy. I watched a film on it yesterday and with the volume whacked up you can feel the bass shaking the phone smile
  • Battery: Still early days, but looks very promising. Full charge over Friday night; left the house at 7am and finally went to bed at 11pm. Battery was still at 29%. That is with everything turned on, no battery management and some serious usage through the day!
  • Looks: It's a pretty phone, but not quite HTC One standard. Build quality feels good and there is no hint of the defects reported on the early Korean models. I'll probably buy a case for it though.
  • General: It's a lot bigger than you think; if your considering one and size is an issue, I suggest getting your hands on one first. Due to the size and construction (glass), I'm going to buy a case as it is quite slippery and awkward to hold one handed.
Noise cancelling earphones are top notch and a great freebie.

I haven't test the waterproof feature yet. There is something unnerving about dropping my new toy into a bucket of water frown

Got mine this morning, have to admit I was a bit disappointed by the packaging. The box itself was okay but it was the yellowed sellotape sealing the box, would have expected it to be the usual round seals, looked second hand on first impression which seems a bit strange.

Well things got better playing with the phone but make no mistake it is a big beast in the hand but as I own a Sony tablet the interface was already quite familiar so setting up was very easy. Having spent some time setting it up like my old android phone I am more than pleased with it, the battery life is looking very good compared to the old galaxy S3 which was one of the main reasons to buy it.

Other little things I have found, it has a built in answering machine, never seen this before but I think it is a good idea and saves you money compared to the network operator one. The noise cancelling headphones do work but I think you can get better performance from a proper pair of isolating headphones than the ones supplied but it is better than nothing.

I think Sony have done a good job on the antennas in the handset as I can now get a couple of bars of H or H+ signal where the S3 would be lucky to get 3G which is helpful. I would like to have seen a lot more in the way of call blockers particularly unknown numbers as this is a growing problem.

Overall it is a big step up on the S3, glad I bought the Z2 rather than the Z1.

Has anyone else here taken up the O2 Z tablet offer?

I registered for mine on 1st May but not yet received the confirmation text.
