Chaps how are you all getting on with the Z2?

Can anyone tell me how they find the battery life please?
The battery is one of the best features about the phone, lifetime on it for what you are getting is amazing, with my general use I'm getting 2-3 days out of it, seen plenty of people getting about 10-12 hours on screen time.

Headphones are very good.. performance in general is great handles anything you throw at it, no lag or stuttering.

Camera isn't to shabby either.

Picked one up this week, moved from my almost 4yo iPhone4, so quite a departure for me!!

Just getting used to it all, but on the whole quite impressed. Like some others, I'm not had the perfect camera experience so far. Images can seem quite washed out and even with touch focus it seems to struggle to focus on the right point. WIll have more of a play.

  • edit, The photos I've just taken are looking great. It was one set in particular that ended up looking a bit pants. Maybe it was the specific conditions at the time that was foxing the automode.

So, I've had mine for about five weeks now. Battery life is excellent, best by far of any phone I have owned. It hasn't failed to last me all day so far, even with very heavy usage.
I also really recommend getting a magnetic charging cradle, I got one from Amazon for a tenner. Search for:

TDS Magnetic Desktop USB Charging Dock Stand for Sony Xperia Z2 - Black

It's brilliant. It's fast, easy and cheap. Sony also do a magnetic cable for about twelve quid.

I also recently put the screen protector on it (which comes in the box), and it is so much less prone to fingerprints now, but you do lose a little brightness in sunlight.

Lastly, I got the Sony book cover too, which is also great as you can prop it up and watch tv with it, and it also doesn't slide off all surfaces any more.

It is an absolutely brilliant phone, I really can't recommend it enough.

Thanks for the updates guys. A mate in the office has just got one and has come from an iphone 5 (like I have now) and I was quizzing him on the phone and the change from apple. Good to know the experiences here are as positive.

Got to get down to a store and see what sort of trade in offers I can get and then decide between the Z2 and M8.

Gotten:
As past participles of get, got and gotten both date back to Middle English. The form gotten is not used in British English but is very common in North American English, though even there it is often regarded as non-standard. In North American English, got and gotten are not identical in use. Gotten usually implies the process of obtaining something, as in he had gotten us tickets for the show, while got implies the state of possession or ownership, as in I haven’t got any money.

Gents,

Odd question I was asked by my BIL's wife at the weekend. How (on a Z2) do you get a message preview for a text to show on the lock screen? I had a quick fiddle but couldn't find any settings.

This is slightly off topic, but is there a compelling reason to spend £500 or more on a Z2 when the Z at £300 runs Android 4.4.2 as well?
I was looking at the Z2 but now I think I'll save the cash and get the Z (I'm no enthusiast for phones). I know it will be slightly laggy etc, but it still seems like a high spec phone which is perfectly capable of running the latest games and apps.

The Z is still a great phone (had one for 14 months now), and isn't laggy at all, just not quite as snappy as the Z2. To me it would depend on how often you plan to use the camera - the camera on the Z is good in sunlight/indoors, not so good in low light however. Judging by the OH's Z1 Compact it is MUCH better on the Z2 - which has given me the thought of why don't you look for a Z1? Very similar to the Z, but with a much better camera in there.

Good point....now I've found a few prices the z1 seems like the sweet spot for me. Now I need to choose Z1 or Z1 Compact!

After several weeks of deliberation, I finally settled for a Z2 last week to replace my S3. I was actually waiting for the iPhone 6 to come out because I fancied a change from Android, but I decided that I couldn't be bothered waiting.

It was this or the HTC One M8. I had a little play with both in the shop and eventually decided the Sony would be good - before the Samsung I had HTCs for years and I just fancied a change!

Not disappointed at all. The Z2 is much better. It's faster and brighter, has less bloatware on it, the battery life even from new is better than my S3's ever was, and the noise-cancelling headphones are a nice extra. My only gripe thus far is that I can't quite work out where my ear is meant to go when I receive calls - it's almost as though you're meant to hold it away from your head and not listen directly to the phone! Or maybe it's just me. hehe

The switchover of my calendar, apps and contacts took about 10 minutes. I've also added Cerberus security software, which is excellent fun (!) and might come in handy one of these days if the phone ever gets lost or stolen.

Size-wise, I do find it a bit big after the S3. But then again, I'm not keen on Zoolander-type tiny phones so it's not a major problem. Except for the fact that it doesn't sit securely in my back pocket like my S3 did.

So all in all, I'm glad I've made the switch. I like this phone. smile

Well, after a few days deliberating and posting a thread about possible screen cracking, I bought one the other day.
However, after 2 days playing with it, I just couldn't get on with KitKat os and after the big screen on my Note 2, I couldn't get used to the smaller screen of the Z2. I know there's not much in it on paper, but with the 3 'control buttons' being on the actual screen area (not on the surround like the Note 2, this made the screen noticeably smaller. I thought the camera took superb photos and the screen was extremely sharp and vibrant, but I returned it in the end and am back using my Note 2.
As I mentioned, I feel like Kitkat os has quite a few flaws - like no 'gallery' for your photos (instead Google want to you to sign up for their cloud system) and no speed dialling on the phone, no 'text wrapping' when zooming into web pages for my browser choice - Boat Browser - (apparently only Opera browser supports text wrapping in kitkat). There are a couple of other 'backward steps' for me compared with ICS os.
I really wanted to love the Z2 as it has everything I wanted, but I am falling in love with my Note 2 all over again! Sorry.
Oh and as a PS, I also bought a couple of the magnetic charging cables which I returned via Amazon - but I can recommend these as they were very strong magnets and charged really quickly - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00H2EEB4S/ref=...

Also, I bought a really good case, but unfortunately I modified it by cutting another slot in the surround to allow for the magnetic charging lead, so I can't return it. So if anyone wants it for a fiver including postage (paypal would do) - it is brand new, but has another slot cut in the side of the rubber actual surround - then PM me. For reference, it's this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00K0622HI/ref=... Don't be put off by the reviews - it is really good once modified to accept the magnetic port slot.
Cheers, Jon

Must be certain phone manufacturer's take on Kitkat, then. I 'googled' the text wrap and gallery problems and there are quite a few people posting similar problems.

The Gallery on Xperias is called "Album", and its pretty good, pretty well baked into the OS too so I'm surprised you missed it?
