This is REALLY annoying. . .

On other devices not a problem but on my Compact I can find no way of getting PH to display in Desktop view rather than mobile no matter what I try. I've installed opera, opera mini, as well as the default chrome. I can't force PH to display in desktop, using the available menu options. Even using the Desktop link on the mobile PH homepage fails to work!! Grrr . . .

Any ideas?
I am having the same problem, I am using the correct URL, clicked on the agent for desktop site in Chrome, but always seem to get the mobile site for PH. Did you manage to solve this issue ?

other than the above, it is a magic phone, I have had it a few weeks and thoroughly enjoying it, decent battery life, good camera, smooth responsive working and not a pocket anchor either.

Am I missing a trick?!

When I place the phone in the Sony magnetic dock the home screen turns to landscape mode.
Is there a way of doing this when not in the dock?
Slide your finger from the top - from Quick settings there is a toggle for Auto-Rotate - if not there select edit and add the button....

Auto-rotate has always been on, it's just the home screens don't, except when in the charging cradle. . . which is annoying!

Oh I see neither do mine - but it doesn't bother me - if you where to use go launcher or something similar they probably could... doesn't bother me though wink

I found if I went to www.pistonheads.com and clicked the link for the forums it took me to the mobile site, but typing in www.pistonheads.com/xforums seems to work ok.

The voice dial is getting on my wick
"Say call and the name of the person you want to contact"
"Call Mrs Rat"
"Say Call 1 for home, Call 2 for work, Call 3 for mobile or Cancel"
"Call 3"
"Do you want to call Mrs Rat on Moble? Say OK or Cancel"
"OK"
"Command not understood"

How is that better than the older software version?
"Call Mrs Rat Mobile"

Slightly off topic but I got my wife a Sony Xperia L a while back and the curved shape of it is really nice to hold, especially horizontally

http://api.sonymobile.com/files/xperia-l-gallery-0...

Why is this not carried forwards onto more Sony phones as a selling point? The thicker ends really make a difference when holding it.

That was Sony's previous design language, based on the Xperia T. I'd agree it works nicer in the hand the the current monolith look, the current look does look very smart however. I'm told the next range (Z3 etc) will have a new design, so let's see what's happens. I have a colleague with an L, only had good things to say about it.

Reluctantly I may have to ditch the phone for a larger screened model as my eyes are struggling to make out text even with playing around with font sizes etc and I refuse to buy my first pair of reading glasses! smile. Off to book an eye test.

42" UHD screen ? Great viewing, but really poor battery life and portability smile

Soooo. . . fancy getting the updated Z3 Compact! Having always had black/grey phones seriously tempted by either the green or mandarin (red) versions.

Clove appear to have stock, at a very low price and apparently ahead of the scheduled release date. Am I missing something here, never having bought from Clove before!

Clove have them and so do Handtec at about the same price. O2 are doing some sort of deal until 8 October on these. Also worth checking Uswitch and Carphone Warehouse.

I have just ordered one through Vodafone without seeing it but the reviews are good and the battery life seems great. Never had a Sony before so looking forward to picking it up on Monday.

Thanks, just seen the handtec price. Looks as though the green version isn't available sim-free, so looks like mandarin then. . . . or back to black. . . decisions decisions.

Ordered a pair of Experia Z3 Compacts last night for me and the Mrs. We're on Giffgaff, so bought the handsets from them - they only do white or black, so got one of each to avoid any confusion around the house.

I've always had iPhones - I buy the newest model then keep it until it dies, which seems the most cost-effective way to do it. I've had my iPhone 4 for 4 years and now it's on its way out (home button is dying... have already DIY replaced it once). I'd kind of assumed I'd automatically go for the iPhone 6, but I looked at the price, timesed it by two (her Galaxy S3 has been struggling for the last 6 months so we're both after a replacement), and thought twice. Having a look at the phones on offer and reading reviews, I considered a Galaxy S5 Mini, but the reviews I read all compared it unfavorably to the Z3 Compact. I hadn't considered a Sony, but reading up on it got me thinking it was the way to go.

Now I'm getting impatient for it to arrive. I've not used Android since the very early days, when it was clunky and clumsy next to iOS, but from what I can see the two pretty much level peg these days.

To be honest, so long as the home button works on mine, the hers charges when you plug it in and doesn't go flat 5 minutes after you unplug it, I can't see us having any complaints. Will post back when I get it with first impressions etc.

I ordered mine through Clove last week. Had never heard of Clove before, but was linked to in a review on PC Advisor. Still baffled as to why they and Handtec at £349, have it so much cheaper than anywhere else.

My phone, which arrived yesterday, was despatched directly from Sony UK. Amazon, listed at £430, are still showing a release date of Sep 29th.

Delighted with the phone - but I'm coming from a Blackberry 8520, so my first venture into smartphones and Android. Really pleased with the size too.

I bought a Z1 compact a couple of months ago SIM free to replace an HTC One which was annoying me due to average battery life.
The compact offered me everything I needed in a phone at a decent size with great battery life.
My only complaint would the predictive swipe text, it's not as good as the version I had on my HTC one, but that's a small loss for a great saving on battery and size.

Might well upgrade again in Jan once a few reviews of the Z3 compact are kicking around

I'm quite tempted to give one of these a go as I'm sick of phones getting bigger!

Also I believe green is an exclusive to Carphonewarehouse and the Sony store direct.
