Sony Xperia Z3 Compact - Your Thoughts . . .
Discussion

Im approaching the end of my contract with my Z3C, and apart from a hairline crack across the back which has knocked out the rear camera, its been a fantastic phone.
Has anyone gone from the z3c to z5c and what were your thoughts? Also how easy is the finger print scanner to use?
Cheers
Darren
That's the path I took....Has anyone gone from the z3c to z5c and what were your thoughts? Also how easy is the finger print scanner to use?

Finger print scanner is really easy. Only really a problem with wet/dirty fingers but I suppose that's the same for other phones too
My only cause for slight concern is that the case on the z5c is a LOT smoother than the z3c & it sometimes feels like it could slip from my grasp more easily than it should.
I went from Z1c to Z5c and always put my phones in a case for that exact grip issue.
I find the fingerprint scanner works well but you need to be careful when setting it up. It takes half a dozen scans for each finger, and you can store I think 5 different fingers. As it's a fairly narrow strip you need to make sure you calibrate it for the bit of your finger/thumb you'll actually use to unlock it most of the time.

I've had my Z5C around 6 months now, but it's recently started to become very laggy when opening apps, and slow with opening the camera etc.
I'm starting to fall out of love with it rapidly, which is shame as I did love it.
The OH had this issue, the phone had slowed to a crawl and the battery would last half a day at best. I'm starting to fall out of love with it rapidly, which is shame as I did love it.
She uninstalled Facebook Messenger (hateful bit of software), and it was good as new again.

Funniest thing is that they've now included a double-tap of the power button to start the camera. This being a Sony implementation, sometimes it starts the camera without any controls or actual ability to take photographs.
(Sony really do seem to have a lack of decent software engineers)
Out of interest, has anyone found a decent guitar amp application on Android? I've got iRig on my iPhone 4S - works well, but have yet to find anything similar on Android - the only things I've found require Samsung kit, as Samsung are apparently the only ones to have implemented a real time audio processing subsystem.

Did not know that. Just tried it and it took about 5 seconds to open the camera. My Z5c generally seems to be slower than my Z1c was when it was new, but they fixed that 6 months in to my Z1c ownership with a software update that slowed everything down Martin_Hx said:
Am i the only one who went for the Xpera Z3 Plus, too impatient to wait for the 5.... its been a good phone which followed my Xperia Z1 which i managed to crack the screen on about 2 weeks outside a 2 year contract... whoops!
I was wanting a Z3 Compact when I came to upgrade last November, but there weren't any in stock. "had" to go for the Z5C instead. But right now I kinda wish I'd gone for a Samsung - their audio support (Samsung Pro Audio?) means that you can use their devices as a guitar amp. Just isn't possible on the Sony - using an iRig via line in has way too much delay (even when the app is set to low latency), but the same issue doesn't afflict samsung devices.
Hey ho, you live and learn.
Well, I got a Z3 compact off the back of this thread back in Oct 2015 but it slowly seems to be dying on me. The digitizer has stopped working on the top, so can't do drag down easily and now it seems that a part on the left of the screen isn't working (tested through the service menu) so am debating about changing phone, or get the parts and fix it myself.
If anyone has upgraded from this, what did they go to? I'm thinking about the Xperia X Compact as I like the phone I've got.

My wifes Z3C had exactly the same issues. I've not seen any indication from a friends phone that the X Compact is any improvement (build/reliability wise) over the Z3C. I think Sony's QC is awful, that may be just me nowIf anyone has upgraded from this, what did they go to? I'm thinking about the Xperia X Compact as I like the phone I've got.
The wife now has a Huawei P9 and she is very happy with it, great camera and not huge compared to some phones, cheap too!
Careful about using Sony warranty. I sent my Z3C in for repair because the headphone socket had stopped working (common fault). It also had a crack in the screen. They received it and said they could not repair the headphone socket because the phone had damage that was outside of the warranty (the cracked screen) and that the warranty is void until that damage is repaired. I was given the option of repairing all the faults (£130+), having the phone sent back to me unrepaired (~£50) or they would "kindly" recycle the phone for free for me!!
What should have been a free repair on the headphone socket cost me £130 and I had to deal with Sony's awful customer services several times and had an awful time (several hours on the phone liaising with the courier and Sony) when they messed up returning the phone.

I refuse to upgrade to a phone that is any larger than the Z3C. So far I haven't found anything!
I'm in a simlar position - almost out of contract and there just doesn't seem to be a hlaf decent phone the same size. With the amount my Z3C has slowed down and the battery not being great any more I'm reluctant to go for the Z5C.S10GTA said:
I've had real issues with cracking screens. Think I've been through 4/5 now, having never broken a phone before. I am therefore reluctant to get another Sony.
I think I might head back to HTC, as never had screen issues. Any that are not too big?
I gave up having my Z3C fixed and bought a cheaper smart phone to tide me over to the end of the contract. Shame as it was better in every way to its replacement apart from at not breaking.I think I might head back to HTC, as never had screen issues. Any that are not too big?
