I'm moving at short notice to Milton Keynes. I suspect BT will take weeks to get the internet hooked up as per usual.

Is there such a thing as a 4g router/dongle which I can buy for the short term to tide me over. Are the costs mental as well?

Cheers.

EE do a 4G dongle - I use one on my laptop rather than tethering.

Well I only use it for emails on my long commute - so not much.

From memory, the device cost £40 and included 2Gb (to be used in 30 days).

I was in the same situation for 2 months due to combination of a newly built house and the Dec/Jan weather causing most Openreach engineers to be out fixing existing lines rather than installing new ones.

I considered mifi, but having used them previously I found the wireless range limiting. In the end I bought a cheap modem capable of using a normal ADSL/VDSL modem with 3G/4G for backup. Worked well and the additional RJ45 ports meant I could connect it into my wired network as well. You just plug a 3G USB modem/dongle into the USB port. Tried it with a few different ones and it worked 1st time. Also works with smartphones that can tether over USB, so if you have an unlimited data package already you might just be able to use that - my iPhone worked without issue and even charged off the router.

Mine was cheaper than a mifi device from amazon. Already had a USB dongle that work issued me, but if not they can be had on ebay for a few quid.

I have gone for the Alcatel Y800 mifi thing. Hope it works.

I went for the 2gb/have to use in 30 day deal rather than the 6gb/90 day offer.

The 6gbuse in 90 day offer is sneakily rationed at 2gb per month. This means if you want to use more than 2gb in the first month you have to top up rather than use the remaining 4gb.

Naughty I thought.
