I get the classic view back, but then later when I go back onto it, I'm back to the nasty new version. Is there a way to permanently stay on the old version?
It should give you the option to 'stay on classic view' and then ask you for your views and reasons, at which point I told them what I thought of the new Maps. Shaoxter said:
So what do people not like about the new Google maps? (apart from it being slow)
It's only really the fact it's so slow for me. To be honest I can't see many differences between the two, but it's so slow as to almost be unusable. Now if only there way a way to bring the proper road colours back...
You can't type "to:" in the new one to get directions. In the old one you could daisy-chain Postcode A to: B to: C to: D together to really rapidly create a route with stops in. Great in a transport office where it saves you having to fire up the routing system just to quickly check that something is doable. Edit: Seems you can now type "to" but only for one destination. So still less useful than the old one.
Also the colours are screwed - the shades of yellow and white don't do justice to different road classifications. Maps should be functional not 'pretty'.

As an Android newbie, who's route to work is going to be a roadworks clusterfk for 6 months starting in a couple of weeks, I've just tried to look for an alternative route and save it to my Google Maps on desktop so I can pick up the routes on my phone and have a sat nav to try out a few routes.
Aaaargh!!!!
How can they mess up the desktop maps and the phone app so much all at the same time?!? I think I've done it, but its not easy at all!
I found this to do it, Its using the mobile site, not the Maps app, but hopefully it will still work http://www.cnet.com/uk/how-to/how-to-access-my-map...

Guess they are still copying apple in some aspects
All kidding aside, I found it horrendous as well, especially on slower machines.
The lack of multiple points in a route is also a big
However, I don't have any complaints about the apps, seems perfect to me, much better than the browser version?

You can add multiple stops on a route. But the "+" to add another destination only appears once you've entered your start and finish points which is annoying. And also the "Directions" button doesn't appear straight away which is even more annoying.Shaoxter said:

Oh, good to know. I was quite sure it wasn't in there a number of months ago so I reverted to the old version. On the old one you didn't even need to use the mouse/click a button - just type {address} to: {address} to: {address} to: {address} to: {address} and bang enter. Provided your addresses made sense, it would spit out a route straight away. Great feature, very quick to use, nerfed for no reason.
