Looks like the Start Menu has made a comeback and "Metro" apps are relegated to a panel on it. The added functionality for touch screen can now be switched off as well.

I thought that was just an update to 8.1 coming later this year?

The Register is saying it's an update to W8, but they could rename the update Windows 9 to get people to buy it.

If that truly is real, then really they've changed nothing other than making the metro screen smaller and sat it on the desktop - I'm not sure they level of change would justify a 'Windows 8.2' marker for me - but they do have the unenviable task or placating the flat-earthers whilst giving something to people who want something new and shiny.

I really don't understand all the uproar with Windows - MS change the start menu and the world goes wild.

Scrap SBS meaning small business are left with the choice of spending twice as much on a replacement to SBS2003 or paying for hosted exchange / 365 and not even a ripple

There's been a lot of grumbling among the resellers, but the end users generally aren't aware they've got SBS. Shame as it's an awesome product for the target market smile

75 users isn't a small business though.

I'm on site with a 100 user customer with a HP c7000...

They tend to want to know ALL about it when we're telling them they'll need to pay £x to extra to host their own mails or pay MS forever to get Windows Server to do what SBS did. We knew 2003 was for the chop of course - but I must have missed the memo they sent on withdrawing SBS2011 from sale.

Went EOL at the end of December last year. We've managed to get all of our customers bar one to upgrade, the others will just have to pay more when the time comes. Hey ho, I'd hoped they'd bring out a 'proper' replacement but I've not heard anything as yet.

A 'Proper' replacement sort of depends on your point of view - if you're Microsoft it's a full 365 suite and do away with a physical server all together - if you've got too much data / poor bandwidth etc etc etc then it's 365 for the mails and Standard Server for the data. Westcoast and a few other suppliers are bundling all the elements of SBS together - but it's multiples of what SBS cost.

Either way MS have told us in no uncertain terms there won't be another SBS

Yeah, all well and good if you were Ballmer in an area with decent connectivity, a bit pants in the wilds of Lincolnshire irked

Fortunately we've got the majority on 2011 which is ace, I hope to be doing something more interesting by the time that goes EOL biggrin

It may be shown on September 30th, according to this. http://www.theverge.com/2014/9/2/6096207/windows-9...

That logo doesn't look to good to me (they say its a fake), it's more like an old TV channel ident.

Update 7AM ET: article updated to confirm the Windows 9 logo that Microsoft used is simply a mockup.
