I moved to Three from T-Mobile 18 months ago. The signal coverage is different to t-Mobile IME in the South but not really better or worse. I Wanted a Nexus 4 and they were cheapest at the time.

However the Feel at Home when we were in Florida earlier this year was bloody brilliant! Just used it the same way as at home, Sat Nav everything.. mate on orange was not impressed biggrin Maybe going to France next year.. handy they have just been added to the list smile

I have 2 phones, both phone 5’s, one is work on O2 and the other is mine on Three so it should be a fair like for like comparison.

I also travel around the UK quite a bit with work.

Be under no illusion, Three is significantly better than O2 for voice call coverage, 4G coverage, speed of 3G and data coverage. You also get to use your allowance in certain foreign countries free of charge.

If I use spotify on my works phone whilst driving around, I have regular drop out of signal. Spotify on my Three phone rarely drops and when it does, it picks the signal up again fairly soon.

I was apprehensive about going to Three and a potentially poor signal but I've found that nothing is further from the truth.

Good luck.
Thanks all, I found this most helpful as I am looking to use it to stream iplayer etc on the commute, and internet radio in the car.

I think the only question I'll have with Three is about tethering my tablet, something I do when I have work to do.

If your unsure about coverage I would suggest buying a Pay as you go Three SIM and try that for a few days to see what the network coverage is like. I did this but in the end I was getting no 4G coverage and maybe 2/3 bars of 3G coverage so decided to go with EE in the end.

I am getting about 45 Meg at home and 30 Meg at the office.

I'm with Three as well and actually find that standard call coverage really is excellent. Three relies on other network providers for their standard voice calls so coverage really is very good.

Data coverage is also very good for 3G/HSDPA however I do find the 4G to not be too great. That said, I got a friend to sit in the passenger seat of my car and they managed to watch TV catchup live on the phone all the way from Derby to Birmingham and only lost about 4 minutes of footage due to signal issues. Personally I don't see what all the fuss is about on 4G as H+ is typically pretty rapid for web browsing and average tasks. I like the fact that Three don't charge you any more to get 4G at all - all you need is a 4G phone!

Other plus points are that you can use your home data allowance and minutes in certain foreign countries at no extra cost (Look up "Feel at home"). Three also announced free access to Virgin WiFi in London Underground stations, which is a nice little extra.

I'd be hard pushed to move to another provider now. I pay £20pcm SIM-Only 12 month contract, for pretty much unlimited data, calls and texts. Having the peace of mind that £20 is as high as my bills will get is worth every penny.

On old Three contracts, this was included in your data allowance (so effectively free).

Sadly, Three changed their contracts circa 4 months ago and now tethering is limited to 2GB a month. Apparently the reason was that people were getting Three unlimited data contracts, tethering to their laptops/PCs and using that for their internet; racking up 400-500GB of data use a month!

If 2GB is enough for you, then happy days. Otherwise you might need to look elsewhere; I can't think any any mobile provider that does any free tethering though, let alone 2GB.

I think the new contracts give you 4gb tethering per month if you have an unlimited data plan on the phone. My existing 'old' contract is unlimited tethering as well as unlimited mobile date on the phone.

I don't get free 0800 calls though like the new contracts but am not prepared to renew my contract with an inferior data allowance just to save the cost of 0800 numbers.

We're away to Southern Snowdonia in a couple of weeks and the only coverage we get at the house we stay in is 3. Got an ipad on 3 for using the internet but was hoping to get something that we can tether a few devices to for a short term contract. Could I do this with a pay monthly sim?

I've been with Three since 2010 and have been very happy with the service I receive for the little money I give them. I've used the inclusive roaming a couple of times since it launched, it's brilliant.

I had an EE sim in my tablet for a few years, I can't think of many occasions when the EE tablet had a better signal than my phone, and there were certainly instances in the middle of nowhere when EE had no service but Three managed to provide a trickle of 3G.

I'm with 3 also, and I've got a sim only deal that's £11 per month. For that I get 2gb data, 100 minutes and 3000 texts. There have been some signal issues when I've been staying in Aberdeen, but other than that it's been trouble free.

There are also quite a few countries where you can use your plan with no roaming charges, but I think a lot of providers are offering this now.
I'm on a similar deal. It's excellent. I made the switch just over a year ago and have never looked back. I find the coverage excellent, at least where I am.
