Given they aren't going to support an individual machine - they aren't providing that kind of support - it's a moot point.
Um.

I'm not sure what line of work you're in, but in IT if someone supports a product it means that you can call them and they troubleshoot it. On an individual machine.

Latter is still a 1.8GHz processor to all intents and purposes, and if you want support you have to toe the line, as irrelevant as 0.2GHz seems they may have a genuine reason for that. We all know they probably don't, but it tends to be easier to say 'yes, it meets all of the specifications' than argue the case with Sage if you have an issue.
This...

You know, and I know, that it makes little difference in the real world, but it's tough enough talking to IT support depts at the best of times (sorry to any IT support guys on here) without having to explain that although your machine doesn't reach the specs, it should still work.

Yes and no. They will provide a baseline of guidance and support, but they are not supporting that whole machine, OS and all.

At the end of the day they will say that they have said they have tested it and it works. Support is limited.

New software OP?

Will you still support my software if I use Windows XP?
Yes. If you’re already running Sage 50 Accounts, Sage 50 Payroll, Sage Instant Accounts or Sage 50 Payroll on Windows XP you’ll be pleased to hear we’ll still support your software after this date. But, if you contact us with issues related to Windows XP we won’t be able to refer you to Microsoft for technical assistance.

However, we won’t be able to support you on new versions of our software bought after April 2014. We’re going to be updating our system requirements in April and they will no longer include Windows XP, so you’ll need a new Windows Operating System.

Sounds iffy, try running the .net framework cleanup tool to remove all traces, and then reinstall?
This it does, please do not try loading 4.5 as that will come up with a lovely error part way through install of 4.5 not being supported on XP pcs...

1603 usually means you are not running enough privileges on your current logon.

Or its:

1- You are attempting to install to an encrypted drive or directory
2- You are attempting to install to a substituted drive
3- SYSTEM account does not have necessary permissions on the target directory

Nobody said they supported the whole thing!

If they are troubleshooting an issue and determine that your machine isn't of a supported specification, they can, and will, wash their hands of it. You will be left unable to raise a support issue that could result in either a limited release fix based on someone else finding this issue, or you will be left unable to raise a support issue that could result in development work to resolve.

Neither sounds good from a 'spending money on a piece of software to do an important job' perspective.

I think you'll find that Sage will run on any modern processor with no problem.

The min 2 ghz spec is probably a carry over from the P4 days.

Anybody want to suggest that an i7 running at 1.6ghz will be unable to run Sage or will run it more slowly than a Pentium 4 running at 3.0ghz?

Depends - is Sage single threaded? wink

Looks perfect.

This seems to be the same machine with more memory for £10 more.

But most importantly you'll get it tomorrow if you pay the extra postage.
