I'm on a 1020 with the 8.1 DP. Having read up on Cyan, it adds absolutely nothing worthwhile over the developer preview - and it is the same build of the OS.

I'll stick on the developer preview, get any new goodies early smile

Although the 1020 has started to develop an issue - the camera overheats. Badly. So I'm starting to use the 808 as my primary camera ... and as a result I'm getting much better pictures (honestly - the 1020 camera is okay, but its kinda crappy compared to the 808).

I think this is the right call for me too. The WP 8.1 Update 1 is due out this week at some point. Consumer VPN, woohoo!

8.1 update 1 is now available - downloaded and now installing.

My phone (1080 on 3 running developer preview) has just installed the developer preview 8.1 Update 1.

Looks like Cortana is working and folders on the main screen.

I'm not getting any updates for my 8.1 Developer Preview, any reason why?

EDIT* As if by magic something is downloading, I checked this morning too, weird.

Cortana was working before update 1; ask for restaurants nearby and it worked flawlessly. You just had to set the phone to US region.

Folders are very nice.

No updates showing for me on my stty 1020 on 3. I say stty as the camera has gradually gotten worse over time. Hell the last camera app update somehow made the picture quality worse. No actual service points to drop it in at for repair and get a loan phone whilst it gets repaired. None of my older Nokia handsets (3210, 6230, etc) work with 3 sims so I'm stuck using this bag of wk.

Did try Cortana via the US setting, but half the time it seemed to think I was speaking a foreign language, plus with it being set to US, installing and updating apps then was temperamental.

Just tried it using a couple of queries and its got the speech recognition spot on now.

Cyan won't improve the camera, but then I'm increasingly finding the camera lacking on the 1020.

I guess that you're on an operator branded handset, so you're at the mercy of 3 "approving" the Cyan update. If you move over to the developer preview channel you'll get every update as and when Microsoft release it ....

I found it pretty poor too but I guess it assumed I was American; oh the horror, so when my phone has finished updating I'll swap everything back to UK settings.

Tried four times now however I keep getting an error message when it is installing when the gears are rotating on the screen, after Googling it it seems a common problem; so frustrating.

Updated! Cortana is just as useless as I remember (damn Brummy accent!) and the VPN options still have no built in SSL support, which is disappointing.

Still nice to get updates though. There's plenty more to enjoy in this update it seems smile

Forgive me if this is a silly question, but does installing the developer preview retain all the settings? I.E im not suddenly going to find myself having to re-install all my apps & adjust my preferences again?

In theory you should be able to keep everything. Things went a bit wrong for me and I elected to format and start again.

Yeah, I have that as well. MS are aware so I guess its just a case of waiting.

I've not had to reinstall anything through the various DP updates - the initial install, various patches and the latest 8.1 update 1.

Although yesterdays install did result in every application reinstalling itself. All settings were kept, just a strange thing to see every app saying "updating...". It even kept the browser tabs.

It's not just me that's noticed the camera has started to get progressively worse then? Sometimes it's just so slow to start. Press camera button, wait, wait, wait, lose the moment.

The 1020 camera has never been fast. My old 808 with its single core old hat ARM11 can start the camera, take a 38mp photo and be back in the pocket and locked while the 1020 camera application is still starting up or "resuming ...."

Doesn't matter which camera app I used on the 1020 - either the stock Nokia Camera, Camera Beta, 1shot, 4HDR, Blink, MS Camera, etc. - all way too slow at startup. Autofocus is also way too slow - which can effectively mean missing the moment even if the camera app is already started.
