Owned a few, but by far the best was a BlackBerry 8800. Apart from the lack of camera in 2007 it was amazing. E-Mail, web browsing and more... On my phone! Then got a BlackBerry Bold 9000 in 2008 which was a better phone, but the magic was lost... On an iPhone 5 now. BlackBerry don't make good smartphones anymore.
I disagree. I find the BlackBerry Z10 significantly better than the iPhone 5.

NEC-p3 was my first. Great big solid old thing. The I got a star-tac, it came with a "long life" battery that was so thick you couldn't fit it in your pocket!

The first mobile phone I had got a little lost in translation. They asked me what I wanted and I said that I didn't mind as long as it worked on the UK network Orange back home. This is what they gave me -

Yeah the look on their faces when I said I didn't ask for an orange phone was classic

Probably my favourite was the SPV E650 or the S710. 10/10 on trusted reviews! Also thoroughly amused by the fact that there's a small mirror on the back next to the camera for taking selfies!

My first mobile phone was the Sony Ericsson t68i with the detachable camera at the bottom! I remember my mates used to be soooo jealous and the picture quality was shocking, you could hardly see what you had taken!

How times have changed ey!!

Not strictly a phone, but when I was 14 I inherited a few hundred pounds from a relative

Bought one of these

and coupled with one of these

Made me the coolest* kid in school for about 3 months until the first iphone came out, and I dropped the camera on the playground which it really didnt like!

Used the ipaq as an mp3 player for a few years afterwards then sold it. Want another one now but it can do nothing that my phone cant do, but I still want one...

I still have some pictures somewhere that were taken with a T300 with that camera. They are sooooooo bad.

The wonderful (in my eyes) GA628. I had one with the extra thick battery pack and flashing aerial.
I used this linked to a PCMCIA modem for connection to the internet on my laptop via GSM at a blistering 9600 baud!

I also had this odd one. I *think* it was the worlds first touch screen phone. It was great for texting.

And this one. What I loved about it was its built in application that allowed dialup to remote computers via terminal. Oddly this feature was missing from all other Nokia communicators. I wish I had kept my original 9000 as it was not the later "i" model. They are making silly money on eBay.

My 9110i had a bunch of apps that essentially imitated putty. I quite regularly telnetted onto my mail server when I only had a 9.6kbps CSD connection.

How much are they going for on eBay? Mine's still mint, with the box and all the bits!

I think the first touch screen phone was the IBM Simon in around 1993, but I could be wrong and I think it was United States only.

Great idea for a thread smile

I can’t remember all my phones over the years, but I do remember having a pager first, then 2 mates got mobiles but one could only receive texts and not make them!

We all had Nokia's to start with, so I went and got a Panasonic phone with pull up antenna and switch on the side for vibrate or ringing option (very much the same as the iPhone has) remember having to shorten words to get them to fit into 140 characters? Then I remember having a phone that would just send more than one text if you went over the 140 characters which ended my need to text talk.

I've had most Nokia's from the 3210 onwards. I had the proper Matrix banana phone as well smile I loved the first Symbian Nokia too, the one shaped like a well-used bar of soap. I’ve had 2 communicators with the fold open screen that made them look like mini laptops. Who remembers the Nokia games phone? Had one of those too, shame they died a death.

Windows touch screen rubbish which were just useless as the old touch screen would shatter if you so much as looked at them.

Sony used to do some nice ones, the early touch screen ones were cool (P900?) I had a small slide phone which had swappable covers and such a loud output it was brilliant for playing music during lunch breaks. I remember having a really tiny Sony Erricsson phone, which I used to take on nights out and festivals as it was so tiny it disappeared into your pocket with no fuss at all.

Motorola, I’ve had loads in my time including the windows flip phone which was ahead of its time but under powered sadly. Loved the Razr phones but remember so many going wrong and loads getting water contaminated too. they used to have a sticker which went pink when it got wet and so many died by liquid ingress, backed up by being taken apart and them finding corrosion inside.

I also signed up to 3 when it launched on 03,03,03 and used to watch Angry Kid shorts on it, much to the amazement of my mates. Even managed a few video calls too, mainly when drunk and at silly o’clock in the morning.

I think phones made a huge difference to my generation, but I still remember finding my mates by searching for their bikes, actually making plans and having to stick to them as there was no way to change them with people unless you met up.

I also remember using CB radios to contact people before the internet existed 

CB radios were great. I still have some of mine.

What about the passing of names like Cellnet and one 2 one?

Finding out that your phone would not work with certain SIM cards due to being on the wrong band (frequency).

I still have the same Vodapone SIM card from about 1998 and the same number. It amazes me people who keep changing everytime they upgrade.

Just had a look. There is one on there for about £10. Odd, I thought it would be more than that. I know the collectors (yup they exist) prefer the much earlier models. But there was nothing wrong with the 9110. I even had a car kit for one!
I just remembered. To charge the 9000 model you had to have a special adapter that went on the end of the phone. I still have a spare one here.

Yeah, the 9110 had a "normal" Nokia charging port, but would only work with the higher output charger supplied with it. That was a pain when at mates' houses etc.
