After 5 Years and working faultlessly throughout that time I've decided it's time to upgrade my MacBook Pro-an Core 2 Duo with 2GB of Ram, I'm looking at the 13 inch Retina Display model and just wondered if it's a. worth upgrading to an i7 and b. worth getting 16 GB of Ram over 8?.

Keep in mind neither is possible retrospectively.

Of the two, if you can't do both, I would suggest RAM before CPU simply because usually if you're doing something and you're CPU bound you know so you wouldn't be on here asking the question IYSWIM.

I could do both but just wondering if they're both worth doing, out of the two I'm more likely to go for the Ram, I've already decided to go for the 256 GB Flash storage over the 128 as 128 is just too small, I've currently got 160 and have about 50 left but only because I use external drives for films, music etc.

In for this I'm in a similar situation and I too want the bigger ssd but not sure about ram or CPU. My last laptop had a core 2 duo and 2 gig so I'm years behind.

I'll mainly use mine for hd movies on the move, football manager, downloading, music, excel and word documents.

When I bought my iMac (last month) there was a bigger difference between the i5 and i7 processor as the i7 has hyperthreading. This isn't a factor for the Macbook Pro 13" so I don't think a processor upgrade will give much real world improvement.

At the moment I don't think upgrading memory from 8GB to 16GB will make any major difference unless you intend to edit a lot of photos. Who knows what the future may require. I can remember comments were made when I bought a PC with 16MB and a few years later one with 1GB
