Hold down the power button and when Device Options pops up press on the power off option until the "Reboot to safe mode" dialog pops up.

Yep, but I don't get that option, all I get when I touch power off is and OK or Cancel screen?

When you get the option to Power Off, press and hold that option after 2 sec's you should get an option to Reboot to Safe mode.

Sound like a hardware (touch screen) problem to me. To confirm this you can do a couple of things. Reboot into safe mode and see if the problem goes away (in which case it's a dodgy app. You can also download YAMTT form the play store to see if you get ghost touches. Make sure you clean the screen before trying this.
Nope, navigation keys at bottom are unresponsive in Safe Mode. Other stuff works, but they need me to press power button to get them going again.

Now frozen again. Power press screen off/on and they're working again.

It's knackered, isn't it?

Sounds like it. The only other thing to try is to boot it into recover mode and restore to factory settings. You will lose all data doing this so make sure you backup what you need.

Which is simply what will happen if I send it for repair, I guess.

Where did you buy it?

If it's only just over a month old I'd be rejecting it and demanding a replacement

Bummer!

Have you tried a full factory reset?

You have nothing to lose.

You can reboot it in safe mode by holding the power button and the volume up key.

In Settings there is a section "Personal".
Fourth one down is "Backup and reset"
Then choose "Factory data reset"

Before you do that, you may want to backup your app data to Googles Servers (first option in the list) and Backup account (second in list)

You should do this prior to sending it back anyway wink

If this makes no difference, holer up, there is one more thing to try (if the Yoga has the option, I'll try to find out in the meantime).

Even if there was a significant period in its young life when it worked perfectly with it on?

If it's not a Lenovo one I would take it off.

Besides, if you send it for repair they will certainly remove it anyway, so you really have nothing to lose either way.

OK, I'll give it a go. Don't have it with me today, so will play around over the weekend and see what happens, thanks.
