Is the SP3 a big step up from the SP2? I had an SP2 for a short while and it really was neither fish or fowl. A nice toy but not a work tool. I then went onto a conventional laptop for office use and a Samsung Note 10.1 for when away from the office which is connected to an office server.

I would prefer a single device but not if it is going to be as laggy and unpleasant as the SP2 was.

Just been looking into these and it looks like it could actually be the device it should always have been.

So how are you finding living with one? I'm thinking of getting one to Miracast onto a big screen for presentations etc.

The Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro is better than the Surface 3 is every way and the Yoga 3 should be out later this year.
I have a Yoga 2 Pro (i7, 8GB, 256GB, yada yada yada), and played with the Surface 3 this morning... The Lenovo's carp compared to the S3.

Does anyone know how to change the default action of clicking the button on the top of the pen?

Mine launches OneNote and I would like to change it.

Set one up for a customer yesterday Miracasting to a 55" screen. Very impressive and it actually worked without updating drivers and four hours of dicking around. Feels so much nicer in your hand than the 2...

Had a play with me for the first time today. I agree it is a step up from the 2.

Having said that, I still prefer the flexibility of 2 devices, a laptop and a tablet.

My laptop has just died and looking for a replacement. I like the look of the SP3 but cannot ignore the extremely good value of the SP2 available on the Microsoft site with £100 off.

What do you all think of the SP2. Can it be used a a a laptop replacement? All I use it for is email, simple word documents simple excel and internet browsing. I need something very light and portable as I walk to work and want to carry it every day. Two other issues - I often work with laptop on my lap not on a table and does it have the connections to hook up to a projector for presentations?

It's ok for everything apart from working on your lap - you need to use it in tablet mode then. The keyboard just isn't sturdy enough for lap work and the stand doesn't go far enough back. Pro 3 sorts these issues but it's obviously a lot more.

I'd be looking at the base Pro 3 with an SD card.

Thanks. I thought that might be the case. I guess I will just have to cough up for the SP3. Any other alternatives before I take the plunge? I am coming from a viao x series that was seriously thin and sexy so call me fickle but a good looking bit of kit is important to me ( no macs though). I think that is why I am drawn to the SP3 as really only need minimal functionality but like the look and weight

It's a significant improvement over the Pro 2.

Really like my Yoga 2 pro, it has a proper keyboard as the mechanical one for the surface didn't feel great. Only issue is the screen, it's crap at yellow colours. But I've still done some basic photo work on mine when on holiday and Windows 8 is not as bad as people seem to accuse it of being.

Would probably just wait out for the release of the new ones specs now though as it has a chance of trumping the Surface.

Yoga 2 11.6" much inferior than the pro? On offer at john Lewis for £500. I don't need much power just light and portable plus I don't want to spend more than is necessary (saving up to build a garage!)

If you can stand orange there is one for 400!

That's a big saving.

I'm just trying to decide between a Pro 3 and a MacBook Air for our son to take to school. At the moment I'm leaning more towards the Pro 3 because he's familiar with the Windows interface.

Any views from anyone who's tried both? I gather Windows software can run on Apples, is there any noticeable slow running as a result?

Most Windows software can't run on an Apple no, at least not without running programs in "Virtual Machines", which can be fairly complex to the uninitiated.

Office can, and I'm sure there are alternatives out there for most other products - so I'm sure he'll be fine with an Apple. It's not very common to have schools want to install software on personal computers (Licensing restrictions and support purposes usually) - so if the device is for just "doing home work on" then either device would suffice I would say.

Personally I'm in the SP camp, having used both, but again that's because of the programs I run. That and I don't have to have an iPad either smile

Thanks Polariz, that's exactly the kind of info I was looking for. I'll give it some more thought, but at the moment I'm definitely more interested in the SP, if only because I haven't got one of those and I want to play to see how it works. biggrin

No problems.

After further thoughts on this, I realised that a lot of the great things about the SP are the pen and OneNote. We typically use this technology because it's cool, but he has a genuine use-case for such a device. He can take notes (and not lose them), and it helps to still be able to write hand written notes (in a world where everyone uses a keyboard and forgets how to use a pen!).

OneNote seriously is the best piece of software Microsoft has ever produced in my opinion. And it's free! But for the comfort factor it is available on both Windows and MAC. The difference is the touch screen and pen really...
