Just a word of warning for anyone contemplating a shift to Giffgaff. I just started on a giffgaff deal which I thought was rather good = £12 per month which inlcuded 3BG of 3G internet.

In all reality I do not know how it would be possible to use this much as the speeds are appalling. I also have an O2 PAYG sim; I did back to back tests, 5 on each network this morning and the average O2 PAYG speeds are 4 x those from giffgaff.

There's clearly a big throttling operation in progress so if you are a big data user and expecxt to be able to continue doing stuff on GG then think twice.
This is what i find. I'm on their 12 pounds g/bag .. I don't think I will ever use 3gb of data because I often just give up waiting for things to download. It's virtually unuseable for me between say 11am and 3pm

Always found O2's 3G network to be slow, it's virtually unusable at some times of the day on Giff Gaff.
Same phone, same time, same location on Three however- no problems

I'm on the £10 deal with GG. The network coverage is exactly the same as O2. The only issue I have, which doesn't seem to be communicated clearly anywhere on their site, is that if you want to enter one of those competitions (usually on TV) where you text a five digit number it won't work as it isn't covered by the goody bag. You have to purchase 'air time' to do this. What their website completely fails to make clear is whether £10 of air time credit lasts until you've used it all or if it expires after a month, or at the end of the calendar month, even if you have credit left. I decided it wasn't worth risking a competition entry costing me £10 so I didn't bother with the air time in the end. They could be clearer about details like this. Otherwise, I'm totally happy with it, notwithstanding O2's rather patchy coverage in my area.

I had the same, I was with giffgaff for less than a week in all. I dont think it's their fault, I think they get given the stty end of the stick from o2, but there's a trade off price vs performance and I went with Three because while they were a bit more expensive per month, their data allowance was a lot higher and connection speeds much much quicker

I've been on GG for a couple of years, had no bother at all!

Would recommend them.
