Hi all,

I'm currently travelling around and have hundreds of photos stored onto my Samsung notepad. Worried that something might eventually happen to the device i realised i should back them up somehow.

I realised i had Dropbox on my device so i uploaded nearly a thousand photos to it which worked well and was a relief to have them saved elsewhere. After having added more photos to the notepad i wanted to sync the gallery to Dropbox but now it doesn't work/do anything anymore ?

When i turn on 'camera upload' i get the message 'looking for new photos to upload' but then nothing happens. Why isn't it finding any new photos that i've added ? They are in exactly the same place in my Samsung notepad - the gallery.

Frustrated i thought i might give GoogleDrive a go somi downloaded that, it seems that the only way to upload a file is individually - what ?! I'm going to have to select every photo individually over a thousand times ?! This can't be right ?

If anybody has any other solutions that will simply allow me to back up photos (mostly) EASILY please let me now !!

Google+ with Auto backup switched on. You don't need to use G+ for the social side of it.

Yeah just switch auto backup on in G+.

It works seamlessly.

OP - have you run out of space in Dropbox? 1000 pics x 2MB = 2Gig which is the free amount you get?

I use DB all the time on a pro-account and it is seamless. Save stuff on device and it just deals with all of it in the background.

All you need to do is open Google Photos on your tablet. It will ask if you want Autobackup on, say yes!
15Gb Free

Only used 23% and it seems to have stopped, can't work it out.

Have now started Google+, thanks everyone for the suggestion.

Download the Google Drive program. It creates a folder and constantly syncs it to the cloud, and to any other devices connected.

Ok i've been giving Google+ a try over the last couple of days.

It displays a list of thumbnails which i believe are most of my photos - is this what it thinks it needs to upload ?

It started at '4,110 photos to load' when i thought i only had a thousand or so, then the number slowly dropped to 4 then went back up again to a thousand now hovering around 7/800, what is it doing ?

Some thumbnails have a small cloud symbol in the bottom righthand corner, is this ones that have already been uploaded or are waiting to go ?

After a couple of days i get messages '3 awesome photos upload, 11 ready to share'.

Eleven ? Eleven ready to share after all this time ?!

Its already presented with little stories to share with people with more photos than that ?

Sorry for all the questions but i just don't understand what its trying to do, every piece of back up cloud software has so far has been pretty sh*t.

I was in a similar situation when my "free" 25gb upgrade on Dropbox was due to expire earlier this year. So I investigated other cloud solutions.

I ended up keeping my 7.5GB Dropbox for my original work stuff. Google Drive (15GB) for personal stuff and then use OneDrive (15GB) for my photos. Works a treat.

Take photos and when on wifi they backup to the cloud and also sync with my laptops.

Not sure why Google+ is so tricky, it could be to do with the social networking side of it, if asking for stories etc.

Google + / Google Photos is actually pretty easy.

1 - When you open the Photos app and you see the thumbnails these are the photos which are currently either backed up or are in the process of being backed up.

2 - A symbol of a cloud in the bottom right of the thumbnail means that photo is currently in the process of being backed up.

3 - By default it will only backup when you are connected to Wi-Fi to avoid chewing up your mobile data allowance.
So just leave it connected to Wi-Fi to backup everything on your device.
Obviously if you have a slow connection it'll take longer to backup 4000 photos.

4 - You can click each thumbnail to view the pic in fullscreen. They'll also be available to view from any machine or device you can login to your Google account from, just visit your Google + page and look in the top right corner., then click view all photos.
Then on the photos page you can choose between viewing Highlights or All photos.

5 - Ignore all the Stories, Auto Awesome suggestions etc. if you're not into social media and sharing stories and video clips etc.
Google will do it automatically as a preview or demo of what it can do to make things easier for you to share.
e.g. It can create photo albums or story books automatically which you can then caption, write pieces into etc.
It will also create GIF style clips from your photos for fun etc.
