We have a Ipad2 and a Sony S tablet and although the ipad was more expensive, it runs faster, has better sound, better screen (running 2 identical tv progs from iplayer for exmaple)...
That's not really a fair comparison is it. Of course more expensive hardware runs better. That's why it's more expensive biggrin

If you were comparing the iPad with the Xperia Z2 tablet which is in the same price range, you'd find far less between them.

The thing that infuriated me with Apple i-devices is that you need iTunes to copy stuff to and from them easily, or you need to pay for an app. My Nexus 7 just plugs into USB and I can move photo's, music and videos by dragging and dropping.

I can also watch video streams on the Nexus with VLC. I never had much joy streaming video from devices at home on an iPad.
With apple tv streaming Amazon movies, Netflix, YouTube, rtf is a breeze from android or ios.

I think I've settled on Android, for the versatility or importing things, streaming and a little cheaper comparatively.

Now whether I jump for the Tab s 8.4 or wait until the new Nexus?

Get the Nexus simply because you get the newest Android version ASAP.

Android L will be out soon (Think October)

Tab S 8.4 on offer with Samsung & Sky at the moment for £250.

Nexus specs released so far seem to be slightly inferior screen against Tab S.

I bought a Nexus 7,primarily to watch movies when travelling but the volume isn't loud enough to hear on an aeroplane when using headphones.

I REALLY didn't like the android interface so it literally sat in a drawer for months until I found a different user interface - it still isn't loud enough but at least it is useable.

FWIW....

I found exactly the same, so got one of these

Dinky little device, solves the low volume problem really neatly.

Are you using in-ears?
I've found that, on nearly any device, the simple earbuds just don't cut it in a plane.

I'm sorry to do this, but I'd throw the LG Pad 8.3 in the mix. If the reviews are to be believed it's the best of the bunch.

Samsungs are good devices, but I don't think I'd ever own one.

I'd get the Google Nexus 10 in a heartbeat. Although I have recently ordered and Asus Memopad FHD10 which is remarkably good. 1080p screen for not a lot of money.

Using Bose MIE2i In-Ear and Bose Noise Cancelling QC20 On Ear, volume too low to be usable on the Nexus 7.

Ipod/Ipad both OK (but not "that" loud) with either headphones.

FiiO is a big boost for all devices.

I have used a few iPads belonging to friends and they seem okay but I have never truly felt happy with Apple and their seeming requirement that it's all or nothing with their products (better now I am told but that's a call they should have made 5+ years ago...)

Based on this I bought a Tab2 10.1 at the start of 2013. My Lappy died in May of that year and I have not bothered to replace it, borrowing the work one for the few times a year I needed to bash out big letters.

I am 99.99999% sure that I will be replacing this in the next few months with either a 'combined' lappy/tablet or another tablet.

It is a personal thing but I must say I am an Android for the foreseeable.

I can vouch for the android tablets.
Especially in the family they easily trump the iPad just for the user accounts alone.

The Nexus 7 is a brilliant piece of kit for the money as well.
I have a nexus 7 and don't really like it. The iPad is much more expensive, but it is definitely nicer to use. If I was buying again, I'd pay more for the quicker, nicer device. iOS does have a lot less functionality than Android, but I think it's a lot more stable and smooth... worth it IMO.

Each to their own, I wouldn't get another iPad for personal use even if they were the same money, for the lack of functionality.
I still have a couple for business use for testing though.

Have you tried using the Tab2 with a bluetooth keyboard and bluetooth mouse?

Adding a mouse into the "package" makes a huge difference !

Applications which you might feel the need to use a laptop for (eg Spreadsheets, Word Processing) can now be easily dealt with using the tablet.

Nexus 7 32Gb WiFi for £150 at O2. Can't go wrong with that.
