Not sure if this is the right place or if it should be in the news section, but it appears that iCloud has been hacked and lots of naked celebrity photos have been posted online.
I suspect a few law suits to be on their way, and the Apple event in the next few days could be interesting!

Reading the reports there appears to be no real evidence of where the pics came from, anyone who trusts the security of cloud based servers is an idiot anyway! Makes me laugh when these 'celebs' moan about their privacy on a public forum like twitter.

Maybe I'm being overly suspicious but why would you upload pics of yourself to the internet/cloud if you don't want anyone to find them? I really didn't want to use cloud storage for backing up my business accounts but it was the only way I could manage them on the move! Ignorance, perhaps?

Also, why would you take or let someone take pictures of you in the nude unless you didn't mind the possibility of them appearing in public? Maybe I'm showing my age there or I'm a bkless fun vacuum?

Well there's certainly some interesting pictures in that collection. I just wish I wasn't so old and out of touch with modern celebrities - I haven't a clue who any of them are!laugh

Because so many devices (not only Apple) will sync your pictures to "the cloud" if configured to do so.

It's easy to forget that this is happening...

You may well want to share them. Just not with the entire world.

Ah. So more technical ignorance than anything.

Which is why the first thing I do is disable anything that syncs to the cloud.

I wonder if these leaks are anything to do with the recent suicide of an American DoD security expert.

Hmm, it's hard to see a source but my money is on social engineering.

I know it's a pain and services will be slated for doing this, but they really just make two-step mandatory. I'm betting it could at least have avoided half these "hacks".
