Has anyone else noticed this?

I used to finish my day with 30%+ remaining but now it's down to 30% at about 6pm

I'm hoping ios8 will improve this or at least tell me which apps are using power

I noticed about a month ago my iphone 5 was completely drained by about 5pm after an overnight charge. I found it was due to having the location services on with Google Maps being the main culprit. It seemed to be checking my location all the time and draining the battery in the process. So now I only turn Google Maps location on when I need to use the app - a bit of a pain but has solved the battery problem.....

I'm on ios8 on a 5s, battery life is probably worse and it often gets to around 15% and then dies.

My iPhone 5S has got noticeably worse in the past few weeks, going from easily lasting a whole day's use to needing a top up charge each afternoon.

I have also noticed an increase in the number of 'panics' that the phone has where it gets really hot and just eats it's battery capacity for no apparent reason. If this happens, I just turn it off and on again, otherwise it could go from 100% to dead in about half an hour.

This has happened on every iPhone I have had and I have had them right back to the 3G with numerous warranty replacements. The 5S had been the best until now.

After 5 years of iPhones my battery life was so bad on the 5 I moved to a Galaxy S5 and bought a legit spare battery for £15 that I can just slot in whenever I like.

Battery consumption is a fraction of what it was so I rarely need it.

Why suffer?

If it's really bad until unusable, you can get a warranty replace if you nag them enough within 2y after purchase.

My 4S has become pretty poor these days, but it gets little use so I just turn everything "smart" off, which helps a lot. Not much use for a smartphone though.

My other phones easily last 1 or even two days, after three years my SGS2 became problematic to last through the day and, as above, slotted in a new battery for about £20.

Why change phones - just get a small power pack? I keep my phone leads with me anyway, so a charged power pack does the trick.

However, since using an Sony Z1 - battery life has been amazing in comparison to my Iphone 4 and Galaxy S4!

Day 2, and im only down to 30%!

Having jumped from iPhone 4S > Galaxy S3 > Sony Z2,

I can only say that the battery life has been a revelation. A full charge on my Z2 lasts 2 days with heavy usage and all the connection options turned on. Battery life on current generation Android phones has really taken a big leap forward.

I think there is an issue with the ios 7.1.2 update. Both me and my brother updated to this on iphone 5c's and our batteries are completely destroyed. I use to have to charge by say 7pm from a full day of light usage. Now I disconnect at 100% leaving to work, 45 minutes later by the time I arrive it's at 70%, if that, whith zero use and running extremely hot. There MUST be something with the update that is causing it to happen, i'm just waiting for ios 7.1.3 to hopefully solve it but the battery will probably be shot by then now that im having to charge it 3-4 times a day. Driving me potty!!!

To be the devils advocate or to point out the obvious, Apple will probably catch up this month with the bigger phones.
They'll probably catch up on a lot of things:
- Screen size
- Screen quality
- Functionality
- Battery

I found my iPhone 5 battery life was getting worse then I realised that my brightness was set to the maximum. Turned it down and it's back to the same kind of performance that I used to get from it.

agree, I've got an iphone 5 and at the moment feel that I cant use the phone when out and about because it just kills the battery. on wifi it doesnt seem to be too bad, but if on 3g/E/GPRS signal it just kills the battery.

trying to log onto facebook, email, snapchat..... all just makes the phone go really really hot and it switches itself off. battery can jump from 80/90% down to 20% or 0!! in less than an hour. few people at work been complaining about similar issues, so think its got to be something to do with software updates.

Nah, I keep mine and change every two years. It'll be the6S for me.

Although I've only had my 5S since 01/01/14.

At least with the new ios8 it will have the ability to see which apps are draining the battery.

My phone usage said that it had been active for 7 hours out if the past 10 during the day. I don't know how, I'd been at work not on the phone. There must be an errant app draining it

Don't forget to turn Bluetooth and GPS off if you don't use them, they really hit the battery on my iPhone 5.

My 5 is down at 30% by about 10am and will be off by 12 if I don't charge it, to be fair I do use it constantly on the morning commute. They are not great on battery life, my 4 was better but with a smaller screen of course.

Check Settings-General-Usage and see what the Usage and Standby readings are, if they are similar values then it is likely some app is running constantly, GPS apps like Waze or Pacer are bad for this

My 5 was last fully charged at about 6pm and is now 50% battery with 3h20 usage and 7h10 standby - seems normal for me

Also, if you have apps that use a lot of mobile data (email, notifications etc) and spend a lot of time in a low signal area (one/two dots) with no wifi the radio in the phone is working at full power and this will flatten the battery quickly

Tl;dr just charge it at work or whenever you can and stop worrying about it hehe
