OH has an iPhone 3GS which never fails to eat through her 500MB data allowance within the first two weeks of the month. I have a 4S, also with 500MB of data, and I only ever get through about half of my allowance, even though I use data-consuming things more than she does. She's turned off the 'auto-play' feature on Facebook vids but there's no much else we can think of. Any ideas?

Porn. downloading porn vids. Or uploading....

(depending on what version of Ios you are running, you can see what is eating the data, you can also turn off background data too. But my money is on porn.)

And to think, she told me the webcam in the bedroom was so she could check that the cats weren't walking on the duvet while she was out! hehe

Basically it has that latest iOS that you can put on the 3GS - I'll have to check when she gets home. I have already had a good dig around in the settings and I really can't see what could be changed to make it less hungry.

Can you turn off certain applications using mobile data on that version of iOS? If so turn them all off and test.

Is there no loggers?

I know my mighty Samsung S3 will show you which programs have been using what, which is incredibly handy and obvious choice to work into the system.

Update!

She switched to Giff Gaff in late September and her data usage plummeted! Same phone, same apps, same settings, same usage habits ... but a tiny amount of data used in almost a whole month (out of a 1GB allowance) compared with her 500MB O2 data allowance disappearing within the first two weeks of each month.

I can only conclude that O2 were recording 10MB of usage for every 1MB that she actually consumed!

It's not the Facebook video thing is it?

It wasn't that as we'd already checked it as part of our investigations. What's confusing is that she's doing exactly the same with her phone on Giff Gaff as she was on O2 but her data use is a fraction of what it was ... like O2 must have been exaggerating her usage.
