I was off the day they were teaching us about technology, so bear with me.
I want a phone that can give me easy access to 3 or 4 email accounts, send and receive pics and videos and HAS to be easy to use. I'm assuming the iPhone and the Galaxy do all this fairly easily?
What would you recommend? I have a blackberry and it's ste.
Cheers.

To be fair, all of the phones do this very well if that's your use.
If that really is the extend of your use, you shouldn't worry one bit about getting a WP, iOS or Android phone.
See what you want in terms of size, budget, and see which phone fits you best.

Personally, I'd say you'd take a look at the Motorola Moto G (unless you want a really big phone), it's big enough, brilliant screen and does all you really ask for about £170. Camera is pretty average though, but far from terrible for the occasional shot.

Many phones do what you want.

"Easy to use" is often different for different people so I would suggest visiting a phone shop and trying an iPhone, an Android and a Windows phone and see which you find easiest to use.

Once you then know which operating system works best for you, then you can look into which physical phone suits your needs most.

I'm quite tempted by the latest Nokia's with Windows mobile/phone OS.

They spec is quite impressive and had a play with a customers the other day, seemed a lot slicker than Android.

Screen is excellent, he said battery life is very good.

He got a wireless charging pad and a bunch of extras thrown in with it,

The Appstore is getting better all the time.

Contract is up for renewal at the end of the year and I'm really not feeling like another iPhone.

Thanks gents, appreciate it.
One last question. I don't use the internet on my phone, but if I were to say browse PH for a while on a daily basis, would 1GB of data be enough? No idea about these things unfortunately.

As above, pretty much any smartphone will do what you ask.

With regards to the 3 or 4 email accounts, most have a single email app that allows you to link other email accounts to it. My phone (android) has 3 emails attached (work and 2 personal) and I just switch between them or you can have them combine into one account.

Unless you decide you want something flash (big screen, top camera etc) I'd suggest looking at some of the cheaper smartphones. Try a few out in store and see which feels more natural. The iphone has quite an intuitive interface and is fairly straightforward to use. With the new iphone 6 being released, an iphone 4S/5C/5S should see a hefty drop in price.

Personally I am an android boy, but only as I prefer the versatility over iOS.

ETA - Regarding internet usage, try this - https://www.cableone.net/pages/datacalculator.html

That will give you some idea of your needs. 1GB of data will give you roughly 4 hours of internet surfing per day for a month; more than enough if you predominantly use wifi at home.

What I would say is don't underestimate your data if this is your first smartphone. You suddenly find you can watch youtube, download music/films and your usage creeps up. Most smartphones have the option to set a data limit alarm in case you get close to your allowance.

I'd call myself a fairly heavy user, but I do have WiFi at home/work, still, 1GB is enough for me and from what I gather, you'll be using only a fraction of it initially.

yes I'm used to the structure you get from Windows (Apple stuff seems like a mess even though it probably isn't) so when I played with iThings that friends had handed to me in the past I always accidentally ended up pressing the wrong button and closing the browser or something then having to hand it back with a panicked expression for them to get the browser back again. nuts

I'm not sure if this will help much but there is a different ethos between Apple and Android.

Apple gives you just one way of doing any given task but makes that way as easy to follow as possible. That's great until you prefer to do it some other way.

Android gives you several way of doing most things and you can choose which one you prefer. That's great until you are trying to figure out how to do something, when often it is harder to find or to follow.

For example, on Apple all your apps live on a single set of screens. You can scroll left or right to find them and can rearrange them or group them but they'll all be on the home screen somewhere. With Android you have your home screen and your app draw. The app draw has everything in it (a bit like the "start" menu in Windows, or the Apple homescreen) but you have to press a button to call it up. The home-screen only has the apps or widgets that you've chosen to put there (like the desktop in Windows) which is handy for keeping your favourites to hand but now you've got two different places to look if you can't find something.

It's not a case of one being better than the other, it's a personal preference thing, but hopefully this might illuminate some of the difference.

That's interesting. Didn't know that. My S3 has just two screens and two folders for everything. Minimalist. Jobs would have been impressed. nuts

Don't discount Windows phones. They'll do the email+web thing very well, and are very simple to use. I just bought my daughter a Nokia 630 - £89 and a £10/month Tesco Mobile contract, and I'm very impressed with it for that price.

The 630 and Moto G are ridiculously good phones for the money, and make all the Samsung, Apple or other "high end" nonsense seem very overpriced.

I'm a bit of a technophobe myself & find an iPhone a joy to use because it's so simple. 1gb will be more than enough to view ph whilst on the move.
